“LAND OF CHOCOLATE is a 4-piece project that includes Jonn Buzby of FINNEUS GAUGE, and Jordan Perlson of ECHOLYN. This project originally started after Jonn, tired of playing drums, decided to write some songs on keyboards for a future solo project. After finding 3 other musicians interested in his compositions, the "solo idea" quickly turned into a band effort.
"Unikorn on a Cob" consists of 10 tracks that average about 6-minutes each. The vocals, which really stand out here, seem influenced by...

Jonn Buzby / keyboards, vocals
John Covach / guitars (1,3,4,6,12)
Brian O'Neill / guitars (2,5,7-11)
Gerald Wilson / bass
Wesley Hare / drums

Land of Chocolate is the project of vocalist / keyboardist Jonn Buzby, brother of Chris Buzby of Echolyn. The band presents a very assured, modern progressive rock, with impressive vocals; overall, this makes me think of a more edgy Echolyn or maybe a less demented Bubblemath [another band who took a long time between two of their albums!

Really great, 1971, early acoustic / electric jazz session featuring:
Harold Land-tenor
Bill Henderson / Harold Land Jr.-piano, electric piano
Bobby Hutcherson-vibes
Reggie Johnson-double bass
Ndugu / Woody Theus-drums

Harold Land, who is less famous than he deserved due to his always remaining on the west coast, was a great hard bop saxophonist, first coming to great attention with the Max Roach / Clifford Brown band.
This smoker is all previously unissued live recordings of unsung tenor saxophone hero Harold Land from The Penthouse in Seattle from 1962, 1964 and 1965 with stellar musicians including Hampton Hawes, Carmell Jones, Buddy Montgomery and Philly Joe Jones. The audio was captured from direct transfers...

Cornelia Nilsson drums
Johnny Åman double bass
Mathias Landæus piano and Roland SH-2000, Korg Polysix and Arturia Microbrute Synthesizers

"Well before the pandemic disrupted and choked off the sort of communal interactions humans require Swedish pianist Mathias Landæus had been lamenting the sense of disconnection he saw around him. “The ecological, environmental and social crisis that humanity is facing is a result of the misconception that we are isolated and disconnected, when...

“The album title is anagram of Art Lande, the idiosyncratic US pianist making his ECM debut in a set of his own tunes, very ably partnered by Jan Garbarek on a recording described by Down Beat as “one of the finest albums ECM has yet released…It is the interplay of the two artists that elicits the full richness of the music. Lande and Garbarek have intelligently channelled their virtuosity, forging a uniquely inspired vision. The result is enthralling.”

Hey! 20 year anniversary congratulations to these very fine lo-fi spacerockers from my wife's home state, which feature guitars, synthesizers, bass, drums, electronics, etc. all heavily processed into a very pleasing bunch of shoegazer soundscapes!

"Groups like Stars of the Lid and E.A.R. have wandered this same misty plane in search of the perfect drone, but Landing incorporates Bardo Pond's jam aesthetic into the journey, imparting a welcome communal feel to their lengthy, meandering...

Their seventh full length album in seven years, Brocade is a turning point for Landing, one that simultaneously harkens back to their roots as hushed drone rockers while journeying onwards into starkly minimalist, utterly cosmic terrain. Reverting inwa...

"Connecticut's Landing have specialized in a mild and rural kind of psychedelia since the late '90s; they have since moved closer to post-punk and shoegaze territory, but Third Sight -- recorded specifically for El Paraiso Records' Impetus series -- builds on the hallucinatory soundscapes of the band's earliest days. There's a unique sense of motoric drift to these four long pieces, and an organic blend of rock instrumentation and analog electronics that brings to mind Eno's best collaborations in the...

"First ever CD reissue of this little known classic from founding Philip Glass Ensemble member Richard 'Dickie' Landry. Following two jazz LPs issued on the Chatham Square label (which he co-ran), Dickie Landry released Fifteen Saxophones, a set of 1974..

Mark Whitecage, alto saxophone, clarinet / Adam Lane, double bass / Lou Grassi, drums.

“As the clever title indicates, this six track EP features recordings that were "left over" from the Garden Of The Moon sessions. But it also features some new remixes of older, previously released material.
Only two of the six tracks will be of genuine interest for most fans, as they were not available elsewhere (until the release of the 2CD special edition version of Garden Of The Moon). These two songs are Leaving Stardust and This Is Not America. The latter is a cover of a David Bowie song...

Lana Lane - lead & harmony vocals
Peer Verschuren - guitars
Erik Norlander - keyboards, bass guitar, producer
Ernst Van Ee - drums

“Their previous Lady Macbeth album broke with the band's long standing tradition of opening and closing each album with an instrumental, and on the present album they jump straight into a rocking opening song, suitably entitled Into The Fire. However, somewhat in line with the old tradition, the album is wrapped up with a nearly eight minute long...

"Adam Lane is doing some magic. If you didn’t noticed, here’s a new opportunity you shouldn’t miss. And why? Because the bassist, composer and arranger is taking the big band format in jazz (in this case a septet) some steps beyond. You know there’s not m

"Further adventures at the interstices of folk music and jazz-rooted improvisation

Pierre Langevin and Pierre Tanguay worked together within Strada (an ensemble dedicated to popular middle-ages repertoire). On this album we find them taking a very ludic and disarming turn towards modernity. An armada of objects and small instruments,...

Jerome Langlois is best known as the co-founder of Maneige. This is new music from him and is 25' of solo piano (nice, but...solo piano, y'know?) and 40' of a small suite for a 10 piece chamber-rock ensemble, which is quietly great...

"This 2-CD set features Maneige co-founder and composer Jerome Langlois performing live in a number of settings. The first disc is the Molignak ensemble's performance at FMPM 2006. This group featured three ex-members of Maneige, the bassist of Octobre...

Jerome was a founding member of the very fine Quebecois band Maneige, writing and performing on their 1st two albums, which were some of the band's highlights. For the last 30 years, he's been doing soundtrack-type work, and it reflects that, but it al...

Lanvall is the leader, guitarist and main composer of the prog-metal band Edenbridge. Having said that, this originally appeared in 1994 and is a soft, instrumental symphonic rock-styled album that will definitely appeal to fans of the mellow side of...

“Joke Lanz was born in Basel, Switzerland and is a well-know noise musician, performance artist and turntablist. He is also founding member and singer in the art rock group Sudden Infant, a member of the legendary Schimpfluch group (alongside Rudolf Eb.er, Dave Phillips, Marc Zeier and Daniel Löwenbrück) and performs in many duos and and other forms in the improvisation scene. He also writes music for theatre and film, radio, installations and objects.

"In the spring of 1973, Bernardo Lanzetti , along with the group Acqua Fragile, recorded their first, self-titled album , which gave way to a brilliant and commendable career of one of the the main Italian voices of progressive rock...

“Bernardo Lanzetti is a somewhat polarizing figure in progressive rock, with some listeners feeling that his distinctive vocals have ruined perfectly good albums, and others who tolerate or even enjoy his singing. I’m in the latter camp — I first heard him with Acqua Fragile’s second album, Mass Media Stars (1974), and I thought of him as a quirkier version of Peter Gabriel, with a gritty tone and prominent vibrato. When he joined PFM for Chocolate Kings (1975), I had no problem with the change. While...

"Saxophonist/composer Travis Laplante has devoted his life to finding new sounds, heard everywhere from the avant-punk jazz of Little Women, to the ever-evolving saxophone quartet Battle Trance, to mind-bending solo performances, duos with Gerald Cleaver and Peter Evans, and a collaboration with new music ensemble Yarn/Wire, about which Hank Shteamer of Rolling Stone said "head-spinning flights of circular breathing share space with sparse, prayerful lyricism." He doesn’t sit still, and if you think...

Nice to see these later solo works by the leader of the great chamber-rock/ECM-styled band Noetra appear. This is from 1993 and is still very much in the Noetra vein, with more ECM/jazz leanings than before, but still very obviously the work of the leader of Noetra.
The personal is Jean Lapouge-guitars, Christian Paboeuf-oboe, vibes, Jean-François Bercé-double bass and Mikko Fontaine-drums and percussion. Refined, serene and very musical!

After sadly winding up his wonderful Noetra ensemble in the early/mid 1980s, guitarist and composer Jean Lapouge went more into an area closer to jazz/electric jazz/ECM sound. Among other activities, he formed a trio with the legendary double bassist...

Nice to see these later solo works by the leader of the great chamber-rock/ECM-styled band Noetra appear. This is a duo between guitarist Lapouge and Christian Paboeuf on oboe, flutes and percussion. This album, which was recorded in 1987, but never...

“In 1983, electronic musician Rudolf Langer (Tyndall) and guitarist Peter Preuß teamed up to form a duo by the name of LAPRE (LAnger + PREuß). Aligned with the second generation of the Berlin School, their output is incredibly varied: from repetitive sequencer patterns via playfully cheerful synth pop all the way to atmospheric, hypnotic minor key expanses. It's all there. By 1984, LAPRE had released two tapes and a 12" vinyl. Bureau B's compilation presents the most compelling tracks from these releases...

Rudolf Langer (formerly of Tyndall) and Peter Preuss teamed up to create Lapre as a vehicle for their adventures in sonic experimentation. They set about capturing their nocturnal rehearsal room sessions on tape, Langer on synthesizer and Preuß on guitar. With the exception of a solitary single and a few extremely limited cassette runs, Lapre released no further material during their active phase. It was not until 2018 that their works became accessible to a wider audience, when Bureau B released the...

"Tim Lapthorn is a highly gifted young jazz pianist making his mark on the British scene. His bluesy, flowing, lyrical sound sets him apart from many of his contemporaries. His music is accessible and open and his style very much his own. His trio...

"Tim Lapthorn is a highly intuitive pianist with a strong emotional feel. This is his second album. Seventh Sense puts the emphasis squarely back on the art of heartfelt improvisation and storytelling. The idea of the recording was to approach...

Laraaji is a zither/electronic artist who was discovered by Brian Eno and who released Ambient 3: Day of Radiance on EG in 1980, right as the whole new age/ambient kerfluffle was taking off. The music is very peaceful and functions really well as...

The great lost second Laraaji album, from 1984 and only previously available on cassette tape directly from the artist on the streets of NYC!

"Vision Songs Vol. 1 (1984) is the LARAAJI album like no other, located at the intersection of new age and gospel. It is both his outlier and magnum opus, the feel-good DIY tape of the century.
Discovered busking in Washington Square Park by Brian Eno in the late 70s, engagement with the eternal flow has led Laraaji to, seemingly by magic, emerge as the.

"The twelve part BBC Series, Lark Rise to Candleford, on prime time Sunday nights has attracted nearly 12 million viewers each week. The album includes several pieces of music from the programme, including the theme music. The main man behind the...

One of the very first (maybe *the* first) CD release on the late, great AYAA label was by this mostly instrumental Swiss trio of tenor sax, bass and drums. 15 years later, here they are again with a fine second album, and what I said about their first basically applies to this as well. This has the energy of the old 'downtown NYC' sound and it really sounds like 1988 again at the old Knitting Factory, with someone in the vein of Curlew/Doctor Nerve/The Decoding Society tearing it up on the stage, which...

“Ashen Lights is the new trio release from Swedish keyboard player Lalle Larsson. After the critically acclaimed projects Seven Deadly Pieces, Until Never and "The Weaveworld Trilogy " - Lalle is back with another strong release on Reingold Records. This time as the soloist in a more intimate trio setting. Taking influences from all kinds of different music, most notably John Coltrane, Allan Holdsworth and Eric Dolphy who he mentions as his biggest inspiration, Larsson is home to many musical worlds...

"After releasing the Weaveworld trilogy Lalle Larsson has gone back to his roots and recorded a magnificent piano album featuring Jonas Reingold (Karmakanic, The Flower Kings, Kaipa, The Tangent) on bass and Richard Hallebeek on guitar. Beautiful minimalistic compositions executed with elegance and class."

Lalle Larsson is a still-young Swedish keyboardist who came up in the technical fusion world and is probably best known at this point as the keyboardist of progrock's Karmakanic. He's a monster player who tempers his killer chops with killer ideas and...

Larval is a avant/post-rock instrumental band consisting of an ever changing lineup of some of the best.

"Vita sul pianeta" is a concept album released in 1973 by Car Juke-Box record label - the same of the first Le Orme's LP's - and recorded by Laser, a five-piece band from Rome previously named "Il Laser di Elvezio Sbardella" after their founder's name...

Teddy Lasry is best known as being one of the reed men in the first edition of Magma, appearing on Mekanik, 1001 and Kobaia.
But after leaving Magma circa 1973, he made a bunch of library music albums (which I have never heard), as well as two very excellent, more keyboard / electronic-styled progressive albums for RCA in 1976 and 1979, of which this is the first.
At one point, I tried to license the two RCA albums for Cuneiform, so you know that I think highly of them; this is its first-ever...
