“The Lo Yo Yo was founded by Family Fodder frontman John Pearce, aka Alig, in 1984. They were active for 2 years and released one cassette, one split cassette with Look De Bouk, one full-length LP and appeared on the Local International 15-26 compilation cassette on Recommended.
The band's name comes from a Captain Beefheart song titled Low Yo Yo Stuff on the 1972 Clear Spot LP. The Lo Yo Yo's line-up was very varied and included, along 10 or so other musicians, various Family Fodder members like...

“Maurizio Bianchi is an Italian pioneer of industrial music and dark ambient, originating from Milan. Bianchi was inspired by the music of Tangerine Dream, Conrad Schnitzler and Throbbing Gristle. "Francisco Meirino is a sound artist based in Switzerland. His music explores the tension between programmable material and the potential for its failure. His interest lies primarily in what is not supposed to be recorded: the end of life of electronic devices, electrostatic noise, magnetic fields and the unconventional use of music hardware and sound systems and how to exploit these sonic failures in radically different ways in his sound pieces. His music combines intricate textures, sonic precision...

“Phil Minton is a jazz/free-improvising vocalist and trumpeter. He is a highly dramatic baritone who tends to specialize in literary texts: he has sung lyrics by William Blake with Mike Westbrook's group, Daniil Kharms and Joseph Brodsky with Simon Nabatov, and extracts from James Joyce's Finnegans Wake with his own ensemble. Minton is perhaps best known, however, for his completely free-form work, which involves "extended techniques" that can be as unsettling as they can be mesmerising. His vocals...

Poignant isn’t normally a word I would use to describe MX-80 (usually it’s loud, brash and outrageous), but since their guitar-extraordinaire and linchpin, Bruce Anderson died last year and this was the album he had finished when he died, it’s poignant to me personally. And, with the double trio line up (2 guitars, 2 basses, 2 drums + Rich Stim), it’s one of their great ones!

“MX-80 Sound is an eclectic American art-rock band founded in 1974 in Bloomington, USA, by guitarist Bruce Anderson...

The band's first album "8 New Songs By Mick Hobbs" came out in 1982 on casette only. It was followed by the second album, "Ossification". The third album...

“Coming out of left field this, is - to say the least – enigmatic; it’s also confident and full of detail, with some 30 musical contributors, constantly changing instrumentation and shifting musical styles, making it musically uncategoriseable.
Loosely hung on the work of British composer, improviser and political activist, Cornelius Cardew, it mixes references and re-figurings of some of his work, as well as one straight rendition (Winter Potato No.3) using, apart from almost conventional song...

“All-new album by Robin Storey aka Rapoon. Founded in 1992 after Storey left Zoviet France, Rapoon soon became an outstanding ethno-dark ambient project that has gained a cult following all over the world.

"Brand new album by the legendary Rapoon. Robin Storey, co-founder of Zoviet France and a very prolific solo artist since his departure, is combining his love for krautrock with his love for French film.
A hommage to the Nouveau Vague cinema with a soundtrack that for the first time incorporates real drums! Another radical change for Rapoon. Always evolving, always progressing."

Somehow, this very excellent album of mostly acoustic systems music was released by Rough Trade in the mid 80s. I’ve had it and it’s crap pressing for decades and decades and am finally able to really hear it!
Highly recommended for fans of minimal music / systems music.

“Regular Music were early instigators of the UK post-systems movement whose work straddles the spheres of rock, minimalism and post-punk.
The band was formed in 1980 by composer/performers Helen Ottaway, Jeremy Peyton..

"So folks.... after the deluxe editions of "Struve & Sneff" and "Songs For Swinging Larvae" we bring you the holy grail for RATL enthusiasts. The first ever release of the 1978 recordings: the "Tap Dancing In Slush" EP and the "Behind Closed Curtains"...

“After 30 years a new album by "The British Residents"
Possibly the thing in the world that you never expected to happen, but luckily you were wrong: Klanggalerie are proud to present you the brand new album by Renaldo & The Loaf.
30 years after "The Elbow is Taboo", Renaldo & Ted The Loaf have created another fabulous record. 13 songs in classic RATL style with an incredible cover by the wonderful Poxodd. All the RATL trademark sounds are there, but of course technology has not passed unnoticed.

“Renaldo and the Loaf is an English musical duo active since the late 1970s, consisting of a pathologist (David Janssen or Ted the Loaf) and an architect (Brian Poole or Renaldo Malpractice). By their own assertion, they achieved their unique sound in part by striving to get unnatural synthesizer-like sounds using only what instruments they had available (acoustic ones). To that end they routinely used muffled and de-tuned instruments, and, often to striking effect, tape loops and manipulation...

“People traveled from all over the world to see them. It was the first time RATL played a proper set and let me tell you, they were beyond amazing. The set consisted of songs old and new, and even a so-far unreleased track was presented for the first time ever. Of course, this unique event was recorded and here is Renaldo & The Loaf live at Klang25 in Vienna in 2018!”

"'The Elbow is Taboo' was Renaldo & The Loaf's fourth album and was released by Ralph in America, Torso in The Netherlands and Some Bizzare in the UK in 1987. You can hear a great technological step forward immediately. Also, the list of analogue instruments played on this album seems endless.

Included is one of their most popular songs, "Hambu Hodo" which was also released as a 12" single, and a cover version of the song "Boule!" by French band Ptose. Sadly, it turned out to be their last album..

Originally from Port Glasgow, Scotland, he moved to the south of England with Thomas Leer in the late 1970s, and became involved with the local music scene. “Anganok was a mini opera written with San Francisco artist Spoonman, in 1991. The opera was performed only a few times and was not recorded. However, the instrumental track and an early rehearsal with Spoonman's vocals exist. The instrumental track had been pilfered for other uses (such as incidental music for the Uncle Willie companion CD), and an excerpt of the instrumental track was included as part of the fourth disc of Our Tired, Our Poor, Our Huddled Masses.
In 2009 both the full instrumental

This is a rarities collection of the Residents' work, and most interesting to me is the 1971 material, which I had previously heard on the Residents Radio Special, but didn't own until now as I wasn't a member of UWEB. Highly recommended for fans who don't already have this material.

"Daydream B-Liver was released by The Residents' Fan Club UWEB in 1991. It's an assortment of music from the years 1971 to 1991. The oldest material is a recording of a live show at The Boarding House in '71....

"Over the years, The Residents have been so prolific that it's easy to see that a year could have simply vanished and gone unnoticed. And one did - 1997! In the early to mid 90's, The Residents were quite active in the creation of CD-ROMs, releasing Freak Show, The Ginger Bread Man, and Bad Day on the Midway from 1992-95. So much time was devoted to writing and designing the CD-Roms that, other than some soundtrack music for the game and a short side project, Pollex Christi, no music was recorded in 1996...

"Between June 1999 and May 2000 Ralph America posted several Residents MP3s on their website. Shortly afterwards, these exclusive pieces were collected on a limited edition CD entitled Dot.Com. Klanggalerie are proud to present you an updated version of this album, remastered and with new artwork by Pore Know Graphics.
In 2013, a new sub label of Ralph was started, Radio Thoreau, on the official Residents website. Radio Thoreau presented a collection of recent Residents tunes "fixed" by Charles...

“El Año del Muerto is a compilation of mostly previously released material spanning The Residents' entire career up to 2009. It opens with a new track, "I Can't Get No (Spot)", a mash-up of "The Cry Of The Crow" (from the 1993 EP Prelude To "The Teds") with the lyrics from Snakefinger's 1979 single "The Spot".
Due to the album's similarities with the Talking Light setlist, the album has retroactively acted as a sort of teaser for the tour. It is also theorized that the album showcases an early...

"The Residents' soundtrack to a never completed CD ROM game. The 1990s saw The Residents release a series of groundbreaking CD-ROMs. Freak Show was followed up by interactive album Gingerbread Man and then role playing game Bad Day On The Midway. All of these stood head and shoulders above the drivel which increasingly clogged the CD-ROM market and all featured Residential music as an integral part.
I Murdered Mommy would have been no exception. Inscape, the company which had released Bad Day, had...

“Morning Music is a compilation album by The Residents, originally released June 25th 2010 on the Robot Selling Device. The compilation contains a hand-picked selection of Residents tracks, designed to be listened to in the morning.
"It is normally true that The Residents can be a bit too jarring for the morning. This compilation tries to fly in the face of that idea and presents a selection of up-beat tunes that will get one through a cup of coffee at home on Sunday morning and ready to head out...

“The Residents are an American art collective best known for their over 60 studio albums that were recorded over a period of over forty years. They also created some outstanding multimedia works, mainly three CD ROM projects and ten DVDs.
Working as an anonymous collective, their identitites were kept secret until in 2017 Hardy Fox revealed himself as their primary composer. Hardy died in October 2018, but the group continue to record and perform.
The PAL TV LP was an obscure release. It....

"The Residents are fiddlers. Not fiddle players, just fiddlers. They like to play around and see different ways their songs could sound.
They call this RMX. Some say RMX stands for "remix" but with The Residents, who knows? While the RMX concept is mostly associated with two album projects (The King and Eye RMX and WB:RMX), The Residents had also tinkered with individual songs. These were released as free streaming tracks on the band's official MySpace page (yes, they had one).
In 2007 most of..

“Sam's Enchanted Evening is a theatrical performance by Randy Rose, lead singer of The Residents. It was performed between October 2011 and March 2012 in Berkeley, California and New York City. Rose's only companion on stage was long-time Residents collaborator Joshua Raoul Brody on piano. A one-man cabaret performance consisting largely of re-interpreted renditions of popular songs from the mid-to-late 20th century, interpreted by Rose in the guise of "Sam the Stranger", it was the first Residents...

"The Residents met Philip Lithman in 1969. They became immediate friends and began playing music together. Snakefinger participated in many Residents projects with 1986 being a particularly good year for their working together. Plans were made to tour...

“So Long Sam (1945-2006) was a one-off performance by The Residents, held at Berkeley Art Museum & Pacific Film Archive on June 4th 2010. It was a work-in-progress version of lead singer Randy Rose's one-man cabaret performance Sam's Enchanted Evening, which Rose performed solo between October 2011 and March 2012.
So Long Sam featured re-interpretations of popular hits from the mid-20th century, and told the story of Sam (personified by Rose) and his troubles with romance, his unhealthy sex...

"Strange Culture (OST): In 2007, Director/artist Lynn Hershman-Leeson heard of a strange situation of an artist being arrested as a bioterrorist due to the fact that his "art" used harmless mold. She gathered a number of friends to make a film to bring more attention to the artist's plight. Among the friends were Tilda Swinton and The Residents who had worked with Ms Hershman on her previous film, Conceiving Ada. The Rivers of Hades: An aural art piece, Chaos Is Not Just A Theory, was written by...

Early in 2020, the group was invited to perform their seminal album God in 3 Persons at the MOMA in New York. Like Talking Light before it, The Wonder of Weird featured a stripped down trio line-up of Randy Rose (vocals), Charles Bobuck (keyboards/electronics), and Lionel Bob (guitar). The group wear variations of...
