Mega Blowout Sale

Suddenly there are a good number of really great spacerock bands out there and Litmus is absolutely one of the best of them. This is the second album by this UK spacerock band heavily influenced by Hawkwind's classic early/mid 70s albums. This thing...

“One of the biggest selling bluesmen of the sixties and early seventies, when He was Recording for Stax and Chess, Little Milton began his career in the fifties at the legendary Sun Records.
This 27-track Collection Includes all the surviving tracks he recorded whilst at Sun bar the odd alternate take. Four of his obscure alternate takes are featured at the end of the CD to complete the package. Also Included as bonuses are six titles on which he featured prominently as a guitarist. Three of These...

“Recorded live on April 21 and 22, 1987 at CBGB's in New York, this is much more than a live best-of album by the "other" star to emerge from Television. Richard Lloyd has always stood -- undeservedly -- in the shadow of Tom Verlaine, sort of a Gene Clark to Verlaine's Roger McGuinn, and for reasons difficult to fathom, his solo career has never taken off.
Lloyd's and David Leonard's guitar playing is in absolutely top form here, and his voice makes a fine instrument, at least on-stage, whether he's..

“Radiant Monkey rules:
No effects on any of the guitars: no fuzz boxes, no choruses, no nothing - just Stratocasters straight into amplifiers. No more than three guitar parts on any song: one main rhythm guitar, one secondary part, and one lead. The record is under 45 minutes long, containing 11 songs, most of which are short. This is in line with records done in the late 60s.”

“As a guitarist, Richard Lloyd is every bit as gifted as Tom Verlaine, his former partner in the band Television...

“Hard to find — and hard to define — rock from Milwaukee: is it space rock? punk? hard rock? noise? quasi-Devo? a little bit Pavement? all these things in turn and at once?
The first track ('White Flight Suburban Nightmare’) sounds like Sonic Youth; the second (‘Burning Feet’) is punky and weird; the third (‘Is It So’) is in a dissonant guitar rock space; the fourth ('Tell Me About Your Perfect Smelling Dreams’) is peppier and snotty and then spins off into jam-land; the fifth (‘Prowl’) rocks out....

“I was drawn to this release by Bill Bruford's name and was not disappointed by my purchase. Pete Lockett is a world-class percussionist who gathered together other able colleagues to produce this CD. For all you curious Bruford fans, Bill appears on roughly half the tracks and spends most of that time behind his kit.
The CD's rhythmic explorations vary between direct attacks and gentle, almost hypnotic, soundscapes. Expect a lot of Indian/Eastern rhythms here. It's a great record for shuffle play...

The world needs more ‘hairdresser and occasional guitarists’...

“Hairdresser/occasional guitarist Paul Gurvitz and vocalist/guitarist Brian Morris formed a band in 1963, immediately heading across the English Channel to play US Army bases. Upon their return, they christened themselves The Londoners, backed up Gene Vincent for a while, and released a 7" (‘That's My Desire’ b/w ‘Bring It On Home To Me’) on the German Star Club label. They soon met up with famed producer/manager Larry Page and...

“Cuban pianist Harold López-Nussa, of a musical family, is well-versed in classical and jazz piano as well as with Cuban popular music. He played with the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba, performed with Buena Vista Social Club artists, and won awards at Montreaux Jazz Festival. Here we hear his Latin jazz renditions of his own compositions and works by Thelonious Monk, Chucho Valdés, uncle Ernán López-Nussa, Aldo López-Gavilán, and Miguel Nuñez. López-Nussa plays electronic keyboard, too, and has...

Here's what I know, and it isn't much. Julien Lourau is a saxist and bandleader in France who gained a lot of attention in the 90s by mixing up electro-music with jazz.
This is an electric, eclectic jazz release on the long gone and missed Label Bleu.
The lineup is:
Eric Lohrer-guitar
Bojan Zulfikarpasic-Fender Rhodes, CX3 synth
Vincent Artaud-double bass
Daniel Garcia-Bruno-drums
Julien Lourau-tenor & soprano sax, Rhodes
with guest vocals by John Greaves (!), Malik

Classic 1967, dark psychedelic/folk-rock classic from this Los Angeles band. This was their third album, and the last before the original band imploded in a nasty haze of drug troubles and paranoia, and is generally acknowledged to be their crowning ac...

“This is a carefully compiled anthology of Ewan MacColl's ballad recordings for the British Topic label. That almost says it all. If you're a fan of traditional Anglo-Scottish ballad singing, MacColl's usually a capella renditions are introspective and very moving. The notes are excellent; the re-mastering is very good. Highly recommended.”

“The classic ballads were conceived on an epic scale and they deal in subjects as large and dramatic as themselves. They are mired in gore or tenderly...

Great album of recordings from the classic Palladium era of Latin music in America [“In 1948, the Palladium Ballroom gained in stature because of the Big Three acts: Tito Puente, Tito Rodríguez, and Machito. The Big Three grew in popularity on the strength of their bookings at the Palladium. These bands were turning out mambo hit after mambo hit...”-Wikipedia]

Mark “Rockette Morton” Boston – bass
John “Drumbo” French – vocals, harmonica, drums on instrumentals
Gary Lucas – guitar
Denny “Feelers Reebo” Walley – guitar
Michael Traylor or Robert Arthur Williams – drums on vocal tracks

This album and DVD set, recorded live between 2003-20004, was the earliest version of the post-Don, John French-led Magic Band, which means you get the largest number of old Magic Band members involved!
“I know, that's John French doing that amazing...

John [Drumbo] French – vocals, harmonica, sax, guitar, drums
Mark [Rockette Morton] Boston – bass
Denny [Feelers Rebo] Walley - slide guitar, vocals
Eric Klerks – guitar, bass, vocals
Craig Bunch - drums.

This is an excellent recording of a fiery gig by John French’s revived Magic Band in 2013. Not convinced? I think one listen to them tear through the opening track, “My Human Gets Me Blues” will convince!

"A stellar concert of the Captain's music recorded in London at

“Where has this set been? It should have come around 1982 in the wake of Delmark's "Alex Club/Ann Arbor set. This is certainly, at the least, the equal of any other live Magic Sam issue.
First, to save us all time, if you liked the Ann Arbor set, you may as well buy this one now. It is the same band, slightly better sound quality, and a similar (but expanded) set list. In addition, I feel that the performance here is even better!
There are three great BB King covers, including "I've Got Papers"...

Daevid Allen - guitar & vocals
Graham Clarke – violin
Mark Robson - keyboards& didgeridoo.

“Apparently a one-time side project for Gong main man Daevid Allen. 'Live At The Witchwood, 1991' is basically good trippy 'head' music. Plenty of that Allen type of wit that many of us have come to expect.
Eleven tracks with a duration of 73:10. Some exclusive cuts to this disc as well as several Gong obscurities, like "Zero Theme", "Magick Brothers" (off the very first Gong lp of the same..

Some of you with long memories and/or big record collections from the days of imports with JEM stickers on them, will recognize this name from his two releases on the Egg label ("The Most Progressive European Music Experience") from 1978 and 1980.
This is his 1st release from 1959, and is obviously, quite different, but is still interesting and avant music.

"Originally released in 1959, Musique Tachiste is the first in a series of rare records by French experimentalist Michel Magne. One of...

“If Cream and Mountain were to have a baby it would be Magnolia. Sweeden's answer to both of those bands are back with their second album, Falska Vagar. While the band seems a bit more adventurous than on the first, it's really more of the same. In Magnolia's case that's a good thing. It's obvious that Ronny Eriksson has much appreciation for late 60's heavy rock, he's by no means a copycat. The guitar riffs these 10 tunes are based on are fairly inventive and the music is played with conviction....

This isn't new for us, but this is an essential , essential classic from ground zero of electric jazz into rock. This is $5.00 and if you don't own it, you absolutely need this.

This is the 1998, 20-bit remastered edition of this classic fusion album. And this version of it sounds amazingly good. What can I say? The Mahavishnu Orchestra's 1st 3 albums represent to me all that was good and holy about fusion's heyday. This was the first of the three, and introduced the monster lineup of John...

An entire studio album lost for 25 years. The follow up to Inner Mounting Flame and Birds of Fire. This is true. This is the lost studio album of the the tracks that the band decided to release in live form (Between Nothingness and Eternity) as their final studio album. But someone realized what this was in 1999 and the tapes from June 25-29, 1973 were exhumed, 20-bit remastered and released. And, while I am happy it came out, for me, I can see why they ultimately decided to release the live versions...

"As the second album to document the second Mahavishnu Orchestra, this one isn't as, well, apocalyptic as its predecessor, yet it does focus more intently on the band itself. Jean-Luc Ponty's curling electric violin lines help give this Mahavishnu...

"Maksymenko plays drums with the force and power of a thousand supercomputers, he composes with the originality of a team of duck billed platypuses writing a sequel to Gravity's Rainbow, and he's more fun to listen to than Disneyland."-Henry Kaiser.

This is a collection of some of the very small but very great work by drummer/composer Michael Maksymenko, best known - if at all - for the amazing album and EP he did with the trio Kraldjuranstalten.
It collects eight tracks by Kraldjursanstan...

Professionally recorded, never-before released show from Chicago on March 21, 1974, when the band was touring America (for the first time?) supporting Hawkwind. The band were supporting their Rhinos, Winos & Lunatics album, and although no material from that album appears here, this is a fantastic performance!

“Daniel Mandrychenko is a guitarist and a member of the Bay Area jazz community. For his debut, Daniel chose producer Adam Munoz, known for his work on multiple Grammy-nominated Bill Frisell records, as well as projects by Herbie Hancock, Joanna Newsom, Branford Marsalis and many more. Daniel assembled a crack team to accompany him on his debut album. Evan Williams (drums) has cut his teeth playing in the Bay Area’s vibrant jazz scene. Danny Castro (upright and electric bass) has played with T

“Warehouse find of the last copies of this long unavailable 2000 release. Light Trigger is studio recordings from 1998 by the duo of Mat Maneri (viola) and Randy Peterson (drums).
"The voicings on this album are incredible, serene, unnervingly beautiful, and at times ponderous with an almost painful deliberateness. The commitment to each other, the push/pull, the complete acceptance, warm/cold simple facts, illuminated prisms floating precariously above a high wire, compassionately sewn...

"The story unfolds in space, be it outer or inner. The path is dark, but the dog will lead the way, just like the hieroglyphs hewn in the eternal oak. The time has come. The claws of the machine accelerate as we thrust into the abyss. From here, a distant light grows like a faint sound from within - getting louder and louder until we realize - there will be no sleep this year. The journey ends where birds used to sing.
Sølvhjerneskaller (The Silver Brain Shells) is the second album from Måneskjold...

“At the age of 16 Carl Mann had a national hit. He followed up with another that used the same formula.
By 17 he was an alcoholic.
But he continued to amass an impressive oevre of recordings with many of the same excellent musicians. Rockabilly was a blend of Rock and Roll and Country and Carl Mann was among the best. To say the Sun label attracted and in most cases retained, at least for the key period in the growth of rockabilly, a high level of rock'n'roll talent is an understatement of the...

“Phil Manzanera's first post-Roxy foray into solo albums is a terrific all-star affair that still holds up enormously well. Calling on favors from Roxy members present and past, and those from the Cambridge/British art rock scene, Manzanera assembled a supergroup for every song.
Robert Wyatt sings Spanish gibberish on the opener "Frontera," a rewrite of his own "Team Spirit." Brian Eno teams up for the sunny "Big Day" and the nonsensical "Miss Shapiro," both of which would not have been out of place..

Luciano was the guitarist and leader of LA 1919 for many years. Here he works on a project where most of the recordings here he constructed pieces out of guitar improvisations received through the mail, and then added musical materials (his own guitar, as well as other instruments like bass, drumloops, samples, etc.) and assembled it all together. Each guest guitarist gets one track.
Included are: Derek Bailey, Waedi Gysi, Nick Didkovsky, Elliott Sharp, Angelo Avogadri, Franco Fabbri, Eugene...

Wynton is a truly great musician and, sadly, sort of a loudmouth, who has used his fame and influence to denigrate great music that isn't to his taste. This is a beautiful album and it's enjoyable as a great album but even more than the music itself...

Some of you picked up Rhys' first album, which was a really strong singer/songwriter album with heavy progressive touches. This is his second and falls much more heavily into the progressive rock category, but it keeps its distinctive sound. Lots...

A very high quality ‘best of’ of his Island years, with just about everything that anyone could possibly think of that should be on a best-of of this type. Don’t know this extraordinary British musician? Start here!

2005 remaster, with bonus tracks, research by Mark Powell and packaging by Phil Smee! John Martyn started his career as a fairly straight-forward folkie, but he very rapidly began to incorporate jazz influences and much more along with his acoustic and...

“Unless you're of a certain age, 65 to 75+, and a real guitar freak, most Americans probably don't know who Hank Marvin is or heard him....what a pity if you haven't!
Growing up in California in the 50's & 60's my guitar hero's were Chet Atkins, Wes Montgomery, Herb Ellis, Les Paul, Howard Roberts, etc. for the Jazz guys...I lumped Chet in with the Jazz guys because he could do it all! But when it came to Rock n Roll guitar, there was Chuck Berry, Duane Eddy, Jimi Hendrix, Link Wray, and on & on...

Features the Masin track 'Clouds' as sampled by To Rococo Rot and Björk."

“Following the reissue of the entire recorded output of South London-based experimental act This Heat and it's successor, Camberwell Now, Modern Classics Recordings holds the lens up to a special split album created by one of the driving forces behind those groups - drummer Charles Hayward - in collaboration with Italian musician Gigi Masin, whose looping, rhythmic, electronic compositions have seen his cult following grow.

Totally wonderful round up of all the 7” and EP titles that Geoff Leigh (ex-Henry Cow) released in the late 70s and early 80s. Quite wonderful arty-art-damaged post punk whatever whoo-haa! Recommended.

“Zig-zagged music, the specialty of MCCB. Across a wide spectrum of sound comes minimal electronics, jilted avantpop, artpunx, and progressive music. Some folk in there as well, somehow. This is a very fine collection of Leigh's various musings, and with it his sharp humor and immense talent shines...

Live was Mats/Morgan Band's fifth album, the first by the extraordinary expanded lineup of the group (Mats, Eric Carlsson and Robert Elovsson-keyboards, Jimmy Agren-guitar, Tommy Thordsson-bass and Morgan-drums) and the first that I heard by them...

Matta Gawa are a DC-based guitar/drums duo who I saw many times until Ed moved to Ohio, which either means that this is the final release from MG, or that they will just have to work as the distances allow. In any event, Sam's blend of hardcore roots and free-music influences on drums and Ed's explorations of the full sonorities available to the guitar + boxes makes for good listening.

"Tambora is the second full-length from the Washington DC-based 'free rock' drums+guitar duo Matta Gawa. Named...

McDermott’s Two Hours formed in Brighton in 1986 and were among the first groups to recognise the stirring potential of fusing traditional Celtic and English folk influences with the passion of punk-rock.
They were a big influence on The Levellers, another folk rock band who came a few years later and were made it to a bit higher realm of popularity.
They joined forces for 3 albums.

"This is the second album to have been produced from the collaboration between McDermott's 2 Hours and...

"Astonishing music which ranges from large gamelan ensembles to peaceful duets of traditional Southeast Asian folk songs. Porter Records is proud to bring you the debut CD of Andrew McGraw. Andrew has spent a fair amount of time in Southeast Asia...

“Another great album from Canada's legendary Paragon label, a set of super bluesy psych demo tapes from 1968; the band’s album “Stink” was received not just as a great album of electric blues, but as some sort of revelation when it appeared in the second half of 1969. Lead guitarist Mike McKenna spent time ('67-'68) in the Ugly Ducklings, but he had already developed a 'local hero' tag by playing hard electric blues as a member of the legendary Luke and the Apostles. Together, he and Joe Mendelson made...

“The performances on this disc were broadcast on CBC/CBOF-FM in Montreal at the University of Quebec on July 3, 1988.
This disc features jazz alto sax great Jackie McLean leading a quartet as he was getting ready to make more albums after a relatively quiet decade on the recording front [due to educational responsibilities].
Featured are four songs he'd cut for his Dynasty album four months later (1990), as well as his composition "Minor March", which he first recorded with Miles Davis and Milt.

1993 truly ‘solo’ album by the late, great, ex-Groundhogs leader.

“It is unpardonable that Tony McPhee is rarely mentioned as one of the world's greatest guitarists. He masters electric, acoustic and slide guitars. Tony and the Groundhogs have made dozens of stellar albums for thirty-five years. Foolish Pride is a great CD for people who have never heard McPhee's stunning riffs. He has always been a great lyricist and his ardent vocals augment his guitar virtuosity. Evey song on "Foolish Pride"...

“Joe Baiza is truly one of the great guitarists to come out of the so-called punk rock scene of southern California, "so-called" because most of Baiza's music fits more into the category of free jazz or jazz-rock. He has often been ahead of the curve with his musical thinking, playing intense instrumental jams a few years before his audience would be eager for them, and bringing together the creative anarchy of improvised music with the independent attitude of the punk scene at a time when the two...

"Only this disc's short length (34 minutes) qualifies as something worthy of complaint; otherwise, this is seminal blues piano, performed by a great player and singer, Memphis Slim. This 1959 session had everything: super piano solos, a strong lineup of horn players, clever, well-written and sung lyrics, and a seamless pace that kept things moving briskly from beginning to end. Other than Slim, instrumental honors go to guitarist Matt Murphy, a marvelous accompanist who was able to blend sophistication...

Low key but very charming blues recording of Memphis Slim (piano and vocals ) and the one of the greatest blues songwriters ever, Willie Dixon (double bass and vocals), recorded in a club in Paris in 1962, with gentle backing by drummer Philippe...

One of the great slide guitarists of our time, Michael is well known in the UK and not so well known elsewhere. Very well played with great tone; if you like slide guitar / the blues, this is a fine contemporary release a bit comparable to Jimmy Agren but straighter.

“There's something fun and catchy about Michael Messer's eclectic album, King Guitar. Although the guitar featured on the cover is a vintage acoustic model, the music runs the gauntlet between down-and-dirty electric blues and....
