Synth / Electronic / Ambient

"Six years in the making, this is the sixth CD released by ReR from the visual/sonic art group Biota. Unique in their history and method, Biota painstakingly construct complex, organic structures that mix extensive studio processing and musique concréte techniques, with a highly eclectic orchestra of acoustic and electronic resources - from kit drums, through mediaeval winds, strings and barrel organs, to early experimental electronic instruments. Their works are always performance driven and interleaved...

“Chicago’s Bitchin Bajas, a synth-oriented trio in operation for the last dozen years, always keeps you guessing. The group released its last album of original material five years ago — Bajas Fresh, which displayed so much musicianship it seemed its prime movers, Cooper Crain, Daniel Quinlivan and Rob Frye, had employed a whole orchestra.
On Bajascillators, they walk it back, and it works perfectly for the times we’re living in five years forward. The group apparently upgraded a lot of its gear in...

This is your last chance on this apparently now out of print set!

Chicago’s Bitchin Bajas have released a bunch of great, vinyl-only, cosmic, deep space, electronic / krautrock albums.
Think Cluster + Terry Riley + 1975-era T Dream sequences and you get the idea.
This totally wonderful set takes all of their USA vinyl-only releases for Drag City and reissues them on CD for the first time in a nice and very reasonably priced package; you want this! “It wasn’t so long ago....”...

"A year after the cassette-only release of Switched On Ra, another format has fallen from whatever kind of rare ether Bitchin Bajas occupy when they're at home. The LP edition of Switched On Ra bears all the same riches (only richer of course) in its grooves, adding a lovely screen-printed rendering of the graphics to its larger-than-cassette-cosmos dimensions. Switched On Ra is the outcome of a typical Bajas exercise: pouring some out for the pioneers that came before (as they've done with Bitchitronics...

This 1977 release by the synth man of Gong & Hawkwind features both studio and live festival recordings.
Tim had his own, very unique take on 'electronic space music' and this has always been a real favorite of mine from the period.

"British synthesizer wizard Tim Blake became a mainstay of the adventurous musical Gong collective in the mid-1970s and joined legendary rockers Hawkwind by the end of the decade. In between, he recorded a number of experimental solo albums, of which the first...

Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce the release of a newly re-mastered edition of the classic 1978 ambient masterpiece “Blake’s New Jerusalem” by Tim Blake. Tim first came to prominence as a member of Gong, where his synthesiser experimentation and mastery was demonstrated on albums such as Flying Teapot”, “Angel’s Egg” and “You”. He would also join Hawkwind from 1979 – 1980 and from November 2007.
After departing Gong in 1975 he teamed up with French lighting designer Patrice Warrener to...

This is a relatively recent (last decade) release by this grandaddy synthi-wizzard and is quite excellent in quality and style overall! Yes, it’s digital, but it still sounds like Tim! Recommended.

“This is the first ever CD release of “Noggi Tar”, Tim Blake’s 2012 album, previously only available as a download from his official website.

“A reissue of Serge Blenner's La Vogue, originally released in 1980. Music for the apocalyptic eighties Deutschland state of mind. When Serge Blenner left his native France for Hamburg, West Germany, neither he nor anyone else could have guessed that he would inadvertently compose a soundtrack for the Cold War. But his dark, monotone synthesizer album La Vogue turned out to be just that. Blenner was born in 1955 in Alsace, the easternmost region of France. He studied composition and harmony at the...

“A reissue of Serge Blenner's Magazin Frivole, originally released in 1981. Cold, concise analog synthesizer instrumentals -- on his second album Serge Blenner remained true to his style, albeit shifting course slightly towards pop territory. The juxtaposition of dark harmonies and pop structures is what makes this album so appealing. In places, it feels like a blueprint for early Depeche Mode. Having seen his first album La Vogue snapped up by the Sky Records and fast-tracked for release in 1980...

This is a minor classic of later, early period electronic music (it’s from 1980) and is a very good one. It was released by Telefunken in 1980 and this is its first-ever reissue!!
Produced by Klaus Schulze, this is recommended!

“The electronic-musician Wolfgang Bock comes from the environment of Klaus Schulze and his debut "Cycles", released on vinyl in 1980, is strongly influenced by him.
The title track, which takes up the entire first side of the original vinyl edition, is still...

“Revolve is the fourth collaborative project between Ian Boddy and the Norwegian guitarist Erik Wollo. Revolve is a continuous sonic journey, with the tracks joined together by slices of sonic ambience and field recordings. The combination of Boddy's Moog and modular sequencing with Wollo's ostinato guitar patterns creates sections that ebb and flow structurally with a beguiling sense of space and freedom. Beautifully ethereal textures give way to pulsing rhythmic sequencers underpinned by solid bass...

Very cool to see/hear the hipster world picking up on David Borden's work and giving him some well-deserved props for his pioneering work in electronic music. This has a great homage to the Folkway's catalog (Freakways!) and the Freakways series brings...

If this doesn’t make you think of “It’s Always Rock ‘n’ Roll” or “Agneta Nilsson”, in a very positive way, then I don’t know what to say! Excellent.

"The Brain's debut release Experiments for Guitar + Machines is also the debut release on Workshop of Filthy Creation, a label devoted to the exploration of noise, sound and music in an uncertain world. The Brain's initial album is a collection of experimental guitar/electronic soundscapes that recall the early work of Heldon, Cyborg-era Klaus...

Very good quality, previously unheard live recordings for the time period from Zurich, Switzerland on 2/4/193 and Lausanne, Switzerland 10/20/84.
"...In 1980 Brainticket was revived with Joel Vandroogenbroeck, Willy Seefeldt and Hans Deyssenroth, and one year later Joel and I formed a duo. We tried to bridge the gap between jazz improvisation and electronic music with an array of acoustic instruments, synthesizers and drum machines. And there was Hans Deyssenroth, who had in the meanwhile created...

Theo Bleckmann -- voice & electronics
Joseph Branciforte -- modular synthesizer, fender rhodes, tape loops, processing

VERY limited edition pressing of only 150 copies made!

“The debut recording from Grammy-nominated vocalist Theo Bleckmann (ECM) and electronic musician & producer Joseph Branciforte [Cellar and Point). Vocal loops of hushed beauty framed by artificially-synthesized tones, deep subharmonic oscillations, and gently layered sheets of noise, with a shared musical...

This is absolutely one of the great deals in our extensive offerings; don’t blink and miss it!

New, fifth release and back on track after their disappointing last one. Really good!
BB&F are a unique German trio who combine certain aspects of progressive/postrock bands like Tortoise, Jaga Jazzist with the rhythmic aspects of Nik Bartsch's Ronin, a Steve Reich/Philip Glass/Michael Nyman maximum minimalist sweep and 'die mensch machine' esthetic of Kraftwerk and lots of techno influence as well...

Lots and lots of polyrhythms here, baby, both electronic and non-electronic varities and lots of.

“German neo-classical techno trio Brandt Brauer Frick is back with Multi Faith Prayer Room their fifth album and probably their most ambitious to date. Recorded over the past two years, it includes collaborations with Mykki Blanco, Azekel, Marina Herlop, Kom_I, Sophie Hunger, and Duane Harden. Their new album is a great example of their modern and hybrid approach to electronic music.
The band still combines acoustic drumming and drums machines, syncopated layered bass and hectic Steve Reich-inspired..

“Gavin Bryars was born in Yorkshire, England in 1943. His first musical forays were as a jazz bassist working in the early 1960s with improvisors Derek Bailey and Tony Oxley. Bryars later worked with composers John Cage and Cornelius Cardew, founded the Portsmouth Sinfonia and collaborated with Brian Eno on his famed Obscure imprint.
The Sinking of the Titanic, Bryars' first major composition, was inspired by the tragic event of the British passenger liner's cross-Atlantic maiden voyage. Bryars...

Reissue of Budd's first generally available album, which came out in 1978 on Eno's Obscure label, and which featured a wretched pressing, like ALL the Obscure releases, so it's good to have this available in a a much nicer and more listenable form!
Very much in line with his better known work from the early 80's on EG with Eno.

“For five decades, Harold Budd stood on the forefront of the West Coast avant-garde. Born in Los Angeles, he studied with Schoenberg-pupil Gerald Strang and began...

“First time vinyl repress of a classic Harold Budd album originally released in 1988. Partly recorded at the Cocteau Twins studio with production help from Robin Guthrie and Brian Eno, the album’s effortless blend of glistening synths, limpid piano notes, foggy textures and space result in a beautiful contemplative whole.”

“Although its aura is ethereal and unworldly, Budd's music is actually an exemplary form of humanly useful music. When the mundane urgencies of life, or the nonsense of our...

"Started as the so-called 'Krautrock Guerrilla' in 2012, six years later the Berlin combo Camera are releasing their fourth full-length album, Emotional Detox. Customarily associated with the likes of NEU! and La Düsseldorf it is time to allow Camera to break free of the krautrock tradition. For fans of nominative determinism, there can be few more apposite appelations than Michael Drummer. He is the catalyst, linking everything together as he crosses the soundscape of everything captured on Camera...

A legendary French group that never released an lp in their lifetime, although they recorded a not released album for Tapioca, and whose leader, Dominique Grimaud, later collaborated with Guigou Chenevier of Etron Fou and then founded Video-Aventures!
This recently found tape was recorded live during summer 1975. The formation of the band is different on this tape than their usual 'rock band' lineup, as during this period Camizole were a duo who played only electronic music in the same vein as Klaus...

"Immediately engaging & all recorded live without overdubs. An analogue e-music roller-coaster ride. Hop on if you dare!”—Eroc

Finally available on vinyl, this underground masterwork of analog electronic music pushed the envelope of melodic synth freakouts to unimaginable edges and undreamt of realms of space. Recorded live on the spot without overdubs, Jeff Carney’s "Imperfect Space Journeys” (ISJ) has become a highly prized collectible amongst “Berlin School” fanatics still soaking in the '70s...

“Mastered for vinyl by legendary Krautrock musician and sound engineer Eroc taken from the original analog tapes.
Jeff Carney's sophomore effort for audioFile (1989) could not have been criticized were it to have remained in similar territory as the electronic wall of sound he had created on Imperfect Space Journeys. Instead, he created a more sparse, evolving tapestry of analog timbres. Using an exclusively vintage analog arsenal and recording live without overdubbing, Carney pushed forward with...

"Cavern Of Anti-Matter return for their third studio album on their own Duophonic label. Hormone Lemonade sees the band heavily utilizing the sounds of modular synths and home built drum machines, yet still keeping the loose, improvised sound familiar to fans of their first two albums, with minimal guitar melodies and live drum kit helping to build hypnotic layers of texture.
The albums genesis was in the self-constructed rhythm machines of band member Holger Zapf, the Taktron Z3 and Taktron Z2...

This record consists of live recordings of electronic music (on the Buchla easel), recorded live in the jungle of Hawaii. It is reminiscent in a lot of ways of Ariel Kalma’s classic “Osmose” release except that the music and the ambient / natural sounds occurred together and spontaneously! Highly recommended for fans of deep space/trance electronic sounds!

“Anthony Child, AKA Surgeon, presents the second volume of recordings of Buchla Music Easel recorded in the jungle of Maui. Again, Childs is...

“In 2017 (and again in 2019) Jeremiah Chiu & Marta Sofia Honer traveled to the Aland Islands (the worlds largest archipelago host to some 6,500 islands) in the Baltic Sea (between Sweden and Finland).
A serene and strange place where the sun doesn't set in the summer. This album is a slow motion storybook comprised of field recordings, improvisations, string arrangements, electronic treatments, and synthesizer melodies recorded during and after their time on the islands.”

“On June 29th, 2023, Jeremiah Chiu walked into the Vintage Synthesizer Museum (VSM) in Highland Park, Los Angeles, with no plan more specific than “let’s fire this stuff up and see what happens.”
Exploring the VSM’s vast collection of classic, rare and staple synthesizers, he would sequence, trigger, and layer the machines together with help from VSM founder/curator Lance Hill.”

"A reissue of Chinese Restaurant by Italian new wave duo Chrisma, originally released in 1977. The album was recorded between London and Milano during the second half of 1977, and the results were something like post-punk. More in the direction of bands such as Ultravox, The Stranglers, and Suicide than the Sex Pistols and the Ramones, due to the use of electronic keyboards, obsessive rhythms, tense harmonies, and scratching vocals emerging from generally dark sound textures. Chinese Restaurant was...

“If you watched television, went to the movies, or listened to radio in the 80s and 90s, you probably heard Suzanne Ciani's work whether you knew it or not. Suzanne is a five-time Grammy award nominated composer, electronic music pioneer, and neo-classical recording artist whose work has been featured in countless commercials, video games, and feature films. A Life In Waves explores Suzanne's life and innovations through her own eyes, offering a feminine glimpse into the world of electronic music.”

“As a genuine vanguard of electronic music composition at the forefront of the modular synthesizer revolution in the late 1960s, Suzanne Ciani's forward-thinking approach to new music would rarely look to the past for inspiration, which makes this unheard composition from 1969 a rare exception to the collective futurist vision of Ciani and synthesizer designer Don Buchla.
In choosing to adapt the controversial prose of French poet Charles Baudelaire, Suzanne would join the ranks of ongoing...

“Asmus Tietchens is a sound artist and composer from Hamburg, Germany. He got interested in Musique Concrete by listening to a German radio programme when he was 10 years old. In 1965, at the age of 18, Asmus started experimenting with tape loops and turned them into musical collages. Soon, the use of synthesizers was added.
In 1980 his debut album Nachtstücke was released, produced by Peter Baumann of Tangerine Dream. This was soon followed by a series of albums of electronic pop music for the Sky...

So, so glad to see this classic German title reissued and available again!
This is the first of the 2 albums that the duo of Hans Joachim Roedelius & Didier Moebius recorded for the Brain label. From 1972, it uses primitive synthesizers, electronic junk, guitars, basses, homemade boxes & more to achieve a true and utter masterpiece of early electronic sound. I can not recommend this highly enough!

Beautiful, new replica edition of this great, classic German release. There is currently no in-print CD edition; this is the only version currently out there!

After recording their classic II, the duo of Hans Joachim Roedelius and Didier Moebius joined forces with Michael Rother (ex Neu!) for two fabulous albums as Harmonia. So this, their 2nd album for Brain, was not released until the later 70's, & features slightly more sophisticated electronics & slightly less obvious 'junk' than before. Still..

"This is the release of the complete soundtrack of cult French animated TV series Les Shadoks (1968-1974) by Robert Cohen-Solal, available for the first time ever in its entirety. It's the right in time to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Jacques Rouxel and René Borg's legendary television cartoon.
Electro-acoustic pioneer and eminent member of the illustrious GRM (Groupe de recherches musicales, the French equivalent of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop), Robert Cohen-Solal has explored music and...

“Colleen’s mastery of the art of sound sculpting is fully displayed on Le jour et la nuit du réel, a beautiful 21 song double album that manages to explore the intersections of the material and the imagined, a sonic odyssey unearthing soul from synthesis. The album is organized into several movements. Each movement employs different synthesis settings, but with distinctive chords and motifs that provide a through line, guiding the listener through gorgeous sonic landscapes. Schott elaborates: “To me...

Daniel Corral - Electronics

"On the surface of the single, 32-minute track, everything seems perfectly transparent, maybe even grid-like. Insistent, hopped-up Plinko polyrhythms braid together in a dense patchwork of minimalist activity, while oceanic noise waxes and wanes. Or it’s pop electronica, but more desperate, more worldly, shamelessly reverbed. Minimalist motivic transitions speed the texture through harmonic and registral shifts, while rhythm remains constant. Corral knows exactly what...

Cosmic Ground is the latest solo project by keyboardist / synthesist Dirk Jan Müller, who I have known for many years, from his work with the duo Octopus’s Garden and then the psychedelic / krautrock band Electric Orange.
All of his releases as Cosmic Ground are Berlin-school solo works and all are very good. This is his latest!
