So wonderful that this great album is back in print! Hugely recommended.

“In 1970, the members of the Art Ensemble of Chicago were living as expatriates in Paris. The group had only recently expanded to its permanent quintet status with the addition of drummer/percussionist Don Moye when they were asked by New Wave director Moshe Misrahi to provide the soundtrack for his movie, Les Stances a Sophie.
The music was never used in the film but, luckily, it was recorded. The result was one of...

This is the third album from this 70s-style Italian progressive rock band, who draw their main inspiration from early 70s style 'progressive hard rock' sounds, but also include some nice flute and sax passages to mix it up and keep it proggy. You can hear influences from Osanna, early Deep Purple, Nuova Idea and Jethro Tull, among others. This is hard-edged, but still filled with epic sounds.

"Not many albums can get you in the mood to blow out your speakers quite like Kath 1, the hideously rare and expensive 1974 low-fi, semi-ramshackle DIY psychedelic LP made by members of Maryland band Badge, recorded in the home of band leader Val Rogolino (and, yes, dedicated to his girlfriend and their pet monkey!). What Patrick the Lama said in Acid Archives about Kath, is equally applicable to Badge:
'Obscure and impressive melodic basement garage/psych with a lo-fi atmosphere that would have...

"This melancholic, mosaic record . . . shuffles nimbly between extremes of darkness and light the way an Olympic figure skater transitions from twirls and spins to Lutzes and Axles, a suite of fluid, involving instrumentals that draws from...

"A reissue of Derek Bailey's Lot 74, originally released by Incus in 1974. Recorded at a private house in West London, the side-long title track is a masterwork: a twenty-two-minute, starkly personal, freely expressive, itchily searching re-casting of orders of rhythm and sound into a new, quicksilver kind of affective and musical polyphony. Never mind the guitarist's championing of "non-idiomatic improvisation", the poet Peter Riley gets the ball rolling in his identification of the various hauntings...

“Originally released in 1977; in the history of free improvised music, there has been arguably no greater advocate for the idiom's power and potential than the English guitarist Derek Bailey. Fiercely principled, between his emergence during the 1960s and his death in 2005, he cut a wide path, positioning this music at the height of creativity, transpiring in real time, and a means through which people from diverse backgrounds could come together, express, and commune. For Bailey, "playing is about...

“This is an album of lost Derek Bailey sessions recorded with his friend and collaborator Charlie Morrow.
In 1982, Bailey and Morrow organized a series of live concerts and studio sessions around New York. This new LP is a boiled-down rendering of the mast

This fine album, one of the few recorded examples of Muir's pure improvisational playing, has been out on vinyl before - in its original issue in 1981 - but not with this fantastic photo on the cover, which I had never seen before....

"A reissue of Jamie Muir and Derek Bailey's 1981 duo album, Dart Drug, originally released on Bailey's Incus label. Percussionist Jamie Muir was a member of King Crimson during the recording of Larks' Tongues In Aspic, in 1973. Staying less than a year with Robert..

"A reissue of Derek Bailey and Tristan Honsinger Duo, originally released by Incus in 1976. Born in Burlington, Vermont, and conservatory-trained in the US, the cellist Tristan Honsinger moved from Montreal to Amsterdam in 1974, quickly linking with Han Bennink and Misha Mengelberg and opening a long and fruitful musical relationship with Derek Bailey. Recorded in 1976, Duo displays a performative musical approach already characterized by the lack of inhibition which would later endear him to The Pop...

"A reissue of Bebo Baldan's Vapor Frames 86/91, originally released in 1991. The alchemist Bebo Baldan, accompanied by Steve James on violin and sarod (as well as on instruments of various geographical extractions) mixes, in a personal way, sounds from a bevy of different cultures -- from Mediterranean and Indian, to South American -- with synths, samples, and loops. The result is a boundless music that carries you, riding soft waves and bobbing between Balearic ambient, jazz, and electronic, on islands...

FYI, all of our copies arrived from Italy with a 2" split at the top of the jackets. This is a reunion album by original members of Il Balletto, the members who made their 1st album Sirio 2222.
Like that album, this has many psychedelic and even 60s rock influences, along with progressive hard rock and early proto-progressive elements.
Loud guitars, a rocking rhythm section and keyboards, along with vocals certainly influenced by 60s groups from beat groups onward and including guest...

“After “YS”, finally out the long time waited new studio album “LEMURES” with Gianni LEONE, Riccardo SPILLI and Ivano SALVATORI.
You will be amazed by the energy and creativity of the music and lyrics that will take you back in time but with a sound and an atmosphere that look towards the year 3000.”

Gianni Leone – Vocals, Keyboards
Riccardo Spilli - Drums
Ivano Salvatori - Bass

Composed and arranged by Gianni Leone.
Recorded live in Rome at "L'Asino che Vola" on May the 31st 2018.

“...we have now decided to produce, the Bootleg, using the recording of our concert on 31 May, 2018 at L'Asino che Vola in Rome. Mind you: it is not “Balletto di Bronzo live”, otherwise it would have been conceived and carried out in a very different way and from the onset. In fact, we have no

Ys, the 2nd & last album by IBDB, is one of the most loved 70's Italian progressive rock releases. It is a classical rock classic that has seldom been equaled, with great soaring vocals, terrific, heavy Hammond organ playing, a creepy atmosphere, and excellent backing from the rest of the band. One of the cornerstones of any progressive rock or Italian progressive collection!

Klaus Ellerhusen Holm b-clarinet, bass clarinet, bass amplification
Roger Arntzen double bass
David Stackenäs electric and acoustic guitars

"At first, the Norwegian trio Ballrogg was a duo formed by reedist Klaus Ellerhusen Holm (Honest John, Large Unit) and double bassist Roger Arntzen (In the Country, Chrome Hill), then later expanded with guitarist Ivar Grydeland, who through two albums added a country & western flavor to the mix and placed Ballrogg’s music as “free chamber americana"

The latest from this ambient-influenced band. Despite it being their 7th (or 8th if you count a remix album), I had never heard or heard of them until this, but it reminded me a lot of Harold Budd, what with watery piano and simple melodies. Really nice and appealing low-key music for piano, guitar, effects, etc.

"A decade-plus on the road, near-constant musical output, and shifting creative priorities caused the revered Austin duo, comprised of multi-instrumentalists Rob Lowe and Michael Muller..

“Oddly, "Aún es tiempo de sonar" marked the beginning of the end for the Argentinean band Banana: the end of their mass popularity, having been recognized until 1978 (and still to this day) as one of the most recognized outfits in Argentina thanks to their ballad-driven compositions — and the beginning of a wholly new orientation in a symphonic prog vein.
César Pueyrredón, the mastermind and Banana’s main composer, his passion for melody, and his unique romantic style were the main drivers behind...

This is a beautiful, numbered, limited edition of 889 copies of this classic, which is part of the Prog Rock Italia series - mastered from the original tapes on 180 gram vinyl in a beautiful gatefold sleeve.
Released shortly after their film soundtrack, Garofano Rosso, this is a vocal album that has been described as a cross between ELP and Genesis with powerful Italian vocals! It was released with English lyrics as "As In A Last Supper", but this is the original Italian version.

Dual keyboard classical Italian rock band with a fabulous, operatic singer, One of their classics from the early to mid 70's. For a band who are so vocally based, surprisingly, this is a instrumental album. It's also a GREAT album!

"Among the few Italian prog groups who survived the '70s, Banco del Mutuo Soccorso belongs to an even smaller circle of bands that never followed any musical trends all over the years. Such as PFM, they entered the EL&P record label Manticore roster, and tried to...

Not only is there a new Banco release and not only is it a new Banco release to celebrate the group’s 50th anniversary, but it’s a VERY good release!

"There could not be a better time and occasion for Banco del Mutuo Soccorso to celebrate their 50th anniversary while simultaneously releasing their possibly most ambitious concept album since the release of their debut album ‘Darwin’ in 1972. The new album is called ‘Orlando: Le Forme dell’Amore’.

"This classic album was first released in June 1983 by Charisma Records and four months prior to the release of the album "Genesis" and began life as a series of home demos and was completed at Genesis' The Farm studio.
"The Fugitive" featured contributions from Daryl Stuermer on guitars, Mo Foster on bass and drummers Steve Gadd, Tony Beard and Andy Duncan and for the first time Tony Banks sang lead vocals on all of the songs.
"The Fugitive" spawned the singles 'This is Love' and ...

"Brand new album from Philadelphia’s much loved neo-space rock stoner drone outfit. A euphoric transcendental journey to a mountain top nirvana, a psychedelic tapestry that slowly unwinds as they travel onwards into the inner mind. A 40-minute opus delivered from a hail of reverb soulfully caressed by a ceremonial flute, that makes way for a shroud of ‘Weld’—era Neil Young fog. Bardo Pond is your rather ruffled tour guide to this far off place, this distant sense of wonderment at the crossroads with bewilde

First-ever vinyl reissue of the second of two albums by this Italian instrumental fusion quartet consisting of two brothers on dual keyboards (lots of electric and acoustic piano, analog synths, etc.) with bass and drums.
This is from 1978. Maybe comparable to a more electric piano heavy Weather Report from a couple of years earlier. A nice fusion disc from the right era!

A heavily vocal release from Robbie and his second to last release; the very good liner notes from Glenn and Henry helped me to understand it a little better.

“Robbie Basho's innovative pieces for the steel-string acoustic guitar incorporated American, European, and Eastern influences, while his unique voice appeared to emanate from another world. Along with John Fahey and Leo Kottke, Basho was a part of the triumvirate of guitarists on the legendary Takoma Records, and one of the foremost...

“On Time Out of Time is a suite of works originally commissioned for the 2017 installations 'ER=EPR' and 'Orbihedron' by artists Evelina Domnitch and Dmitry Gelfand (in collaboration with Jean-Marc Chomaz and LIGO) for the exhibition, 'Limits of Knowing' at Martin-Gropius-Bau, Berlin by curator, Isabel de Sena. These works utilize, among other things, exclusive source recordings from the interferometers of LIGO (Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory) capturing the sounds of the merging of...

"French composer and multi-instrumentalist Pierre Bastien, active since the mid-'70s, is best known for building automated orchestras. His previous album, Machinations, was released on Aphex Twin's Rephlex label in 2012.

For this work, Bastien recycled components of his Silent Motors live set and assembled mechanical organisms -- using amplified Meccano parts, motors, fans, rattles, paper, and nails -- to generate rhythmic scaffolding. Live instrumentals, created with prepared trumpets, African...

“By now counting more than four decades of constant activity, Pierre Bastien erected such a towering and influential body of work that any blurb attempt regarding his music could easily fall into redundancy. Not that his revolving soundworld, deeply personal and unique, has ever stalled into gimmick or self-mimicry, being Bastien the tireless explorer whose vision can never be complete, only continuously redefined in a process of discovery equally playful and challenging. So, completely in touch with...

"On his fourth album, Clic, Franco Battiato moves further out—into realms of pure and elemental approaches to sound—to create a seminal work that flows naturally from one musical form to the next. Every second ripples with orbital chords, kosmische textures and schizophrenic string quartets, yet somehow manages the same dramatic pacing and variety as his avant-rock albums Fetus and Pollution.
Originally released in 1974 on Bla Bla, Clic features Battiato on VCS3 synthesizer and piano, along with...

"Franco Battiato is often heralded as Italy’s answer to Brian Eno. A quizzical composer / lyricist, Battiato turned pop music upside down in the early ‘70s with three classic LPs—Fetus, Pollution and Sulle Corde Di Aries—that formed a confluence of avant-folk sensibilities and analog electronics.
Originally released in 1971 on Bla Bla, Fetus predated the prodigious Cramps and Multhipla catalogues to become one of the first electronic records produced in Italy. With his trusted VCS3 synthesizer...

Pollution from 1972 is the captivating follow-up to Fetus. Like its predecessor, the album features Baroque textures, motorik rhythms, weird tape effects and Battiato’s perfectly oblique vocals. Upon he

"Baumann/Koek is another hitherto undiscovered treasure of German electronic music, the only album by the electronic music pairing of Wolfgang Baumann and Ata Koek, both from Kempten, Bavaria, Germany. It was mixed in Conny Plank's studio and distributed, without a label, by the duo themselves in 1978. The music owes much to the Berlin School; layered sequencer patterns, swirling chord tapestries, a computer beat here and there. Eastern elements or hints thereof add a particular charm to Baumann/Koek...

Just in time for the reissues of "Romance '76" and "Trans Harmonic Nights" comes the first new music from Peter in something like 20 years! And it's good, capturing the sort of 'spare but still Berlin-school' vibe of his early classics!

"In October 2014 an idea suddenly came to mind. Although I had spent much of my life performing, recording and producing music, my attention over the immediately preceding years had been focused on the philosophy and psychology of human nature. It was a rewarding...

An important, long-time and key member of Tangerine Dream, Peter Baumann was with the group through basically all of their most important work.
This was his first solo album and was released while he was still in TD. It's a fine work.

"While still a member of Tangerine Dream, Peter Baumann released his first solo album, Romance '76. It's not far removed from the music that TD was making at the time -- in fact, references to Rubycon, Ricochet, and Stratosfear pop up in various places -- but...

An important, long-time and key member of Tangerine Dream, Peter Baumann was with the group through mostl of their most important work.
This was his second solo album and was released not too long after he left Tangerine Dream. It's a fine work.

"Peter Baumann's second recording does not fail to send one to new worlds both inner and outer and anyone familiar with his music will play it over and over. In my opinion Tangerine Dream never recovered after Peter left the group in 1977. Peter's...

“Bruno Bavota is a young Italian composer and multi-instrumentalist with seemingly boundless potential, and an extraordinary gift for marrying the intellectual and emotional into earnest and profoundly effective songs. Though favorably compared in his early career to another Italian composer, the legendary Ludovico Einaudi, Bavota has found himself increasingly pursuing ways to distort and disturb traditional arrangements and melodies in pursuit of a more distinct resonance. Armed with a plethora of...

“A new release of never-released music by Francois Bayle. On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the GRM, composer Bayle introduces some of his unpublished archives; pieces include the title composition, "Electrucs !" (1974) composed on a 1970s Synthi AKS synthesizer like an imaginary soundtrack, "Foliphonie" (1974) inspired by La Grande Polyphonie (1978), and "Marpège" (1995), dedicated to Bernard Parmegiani. Also included is "Cinq Dessins En Rosace" (1973). Born in 1932 in Tamatave, Madagascar...

First ever vinyl reissue, reproducing the original sleeve artwork and with remastered sound. 500 copies only.

“Extremely rare, under the radar afro-psychedelic LP from South Africa. This mysterious band was produced by African funk master, composer, guitarist and producer Almon Sandisa Memela, who was active since the mid 1950s, first as a musician and guitar teacher and then also as a producer. He is famous for his 1970s Afro funk works Funky Africa and the very sought after Broken Shoes.

"Moments of eternity: the first plucks at the strings, a bass note cementing the drift into place a little more than a minute in. The organ drones, iterating unrelivable ancient history, a chiming note of the church. Guitar strings, climbing that stairway to heaven. Gossamer-light when viewed from a distance; up close, the gears grind with a visceral physicality. With BCMC, Cooper Crain (Cave, Bitchin Bajas) and Bill MacKay unite to create Foreign Smokes: provocalogues, equal parts avant-garde...

Driving, epic guitar based psych / stoner music from Australia, with ethereal, nearly drowned out by the waves of guitars, female vocals. Very good stuff with a certain hard-edged, yet floating quality!

"Iconic Australian psych rock quintet Beaches return with epic double LP Second Of Spring - Chapter Music's first double album by a single artist. Beaches' much-loved second album She Beats brought the band international acclaim in 2013. Featuring guitar by German motorik hero Michael Rother (Neu...

"Beak>'s second album was recorded in just one afternoon - quite a feat given that mainman Geoff Barrow is better known as one third of Portishead, who have managed just three albums in 18 years. The results are impressive, if disconcerting, as they build on Portishead's noirish textures and – with vocals buried so deep in the mix as to make them unintelligible – take a turn for the darker. Yatton and Elevator throb along on pulsing motorik rhythms; Kidney sounds like Bad Moon Rising-era Sonic Youth; while

"To celebrate the addition of Bristol's preeminent out-rock trio, Beak>, to the Temporary Residence family, we are reissuing their eponymous debut album on audiophile-quality double vinyl.
Beak> were formed in January 2009 by Bristol musicians Billy Fuller, Matt Williams, and Geoff Barrow. The band instituted very strict guidelines governing the recording and writing process of their work: The music was to be recorded live in one room with no overdubs or repair, only using edits to create...

“Less than a year after the release of their breakthrough third album, >>>, the renowned UK out-rock trio Beak> returns with the Life Goes On EP. The four-track EP features the recently released single, "We Can Go", which the band says is "the most normal song we have ever written. We like it." The EP also includes the eponymous title track, which was directly inspired by a recent trip to Mexico City, where the band awoke to the sound of a distorted young girls' voice...

"Cameroonian musician Francis Bebey is truly one of a kind. He entered the music scene with his African compositions for classical guitar. He gave recitals while pursuing a career in journalism and then as an international civil servant. The same creative impulse also led him to write pop songs, some of which (based on novels he had written) became big hits in Africa and in the French-speaking world. But few people know that in the '70s, Francis Bebey delved into electronic music. The first electronic....
