"Founded in 2006 and based in the city of Queretaro, in the centre of Mexico, 1870 is a one of a kind proposal where chamber music meets improvisation, delivering a complex yet unconventional state of the art sound. The members of the ensemble are well known musicians who have participated in different symphonic and chamber orchestras in Mexico and are currently members of the Queretaro Philharmonic Orchestra. The compositions, all of them by Gustavo Albarrán, have their roots in the work of Isidore Lucie Ducasse (Count of Lautreamont) and, more than a symphonic poem, the music of 1870 describes the poet’s state of consciousness which lead to the creation of dark, anguished atmospheres. The band’s sound is intimately linked to groups like Univers Zero and Art Zoyd, precursors of the new European fusion music scene."
