AKKU Quintet - Molecules CD

SKU Morph 006
The second album by the AKKU Quintet, who are led by SONAR's drummer, Manuel Pasquinelli.

They are an unusual, somewhat dreamy-but-with grooves, electric jazz band consisting of: Manuel Pasquinelli - Drums, Thierry Lüthy - Sax, Markus Ischer - Guitar, Maja Nydegger - Piano, Keyboards, and new member Andi Schellmann (of Schnellertollermeier) - Bass.
Like their first, this is a intriguing, unusual jazz album with obvious ties to the Nik Bartsch/SONAR school of trance-minimalism. This just flows and grooves from start to finish; you'll either be totally entranced by it or will wonder why I like something that that does so little. C'est la vie!

"AKKU quintet around Swiss drummer Manuel Pasquinelli is a kind of atomized and the newly arranged minimal jazz. The tunes consist of repetitive piano patterns, floating sax and guitar lines, razor-sharp beats and rolling basses. All fits together naturally and creates a peculiar power. The sounds rotate, pulsate and create friction as if in slow motion; rhythms stagger. It is music equivalent to a waking dream: beautiful and strange at the same time. Not seeking the great spectacle - and that is why it is one.

With the second album "Molecules", AKKU quintet plunges into the microcosm of molecules. The five instrumentalists play through various states of musical aggregation - from free floating to interlocked."
