"Daevid Allen was born in Melbourne although he has been a traveller of the world for many years not only in a physical way but also musically. Daevid originally came to England in 1960 and met up with Robert Wyatt whilst lodging with the Wyatt family. Daevid and Robert struck up an immediate rapport both personally and musically which would ultimately result in the pair playing together in The Soft Machine. Before that however Daevid spent time in Paris where he met Terry Riley and also performed with William Burroughs. Daevid Allen returned to England and then formed the Daevid Allen Trio, which included himself alongside other future prominent musicians who would contribute to the Canterbury Sound. Subsequently Daevid Allen moved on to the seminal Soft Machine and from there to the equally seminal Gong and whilst he has moved away from Gong on occasions to work with other artists and bands he remains the key and founder member of this legendary musical aggregation Sixty minutes With Daevid Allen features some of Daevid Allen's more diverse solo work and showcases the real breadth of not only Daevid Allen's talent as a solo artist but also features some of Daevid's collaborations with like minded musicians and artists whose imagination knows no bounds. We have drawn some of the music contained on this compilation from the popular Bananamoon Obscura series of recordings which were sourced from Daevid's own tape archive and released as limited editions with each release being limited to just one thousand copies. From this series we have taken tracks such as Magick Brother which features Euterpe and was recorded during the rehearsals for the Gong reunion gig in 1977. We also feature the Gong track Fohat as performed by Brainville the band Daevid formed with Hugh Hopper and the late great Pip Pyle. All of these recordings show the diversity and artistry of a man who is always on the move looking for the next musical road to travel down We hope that on this album you too will be inspired to follow Daevid down the road wherever his muse takes him. It makes for an interesting journey with many musical twists and turns but a journey worth taking nevertheless."
