Allen, Daevid / Gilli Smyth - Live at the Roundhouse 1971 (Mega Blowout Sale)

SKU 23-HST 115
"In 1971, in Daevid’s own words..."It was now three years since my deportation from the mum country so I was now able to legally re-enter England for the first time since 1967.” One of his first appearances when he returned to the UK, was a performance at a benefit concert at The Roundhouse."

"This is a recording of Daevid and Gilli's performance upon their return to the U.K., four years after Daevid was refused entry in 1967, which led him to leaving Soft Machine. The recording is a reasonable audience recording, regardless, this is an intriguing and historic performance and highly recommended to all Gong heads and Daevid Allen fans alike. The material was the recent spoken word/soundscape material at the time, but also brings forward new material which was to see new life in the Gong era. The band for this show is as follows: Daevid Allen (guitar, spoken word, tape loops), Gilli Smyth (spoken word and vocal improv - space whisper), Robert Wyatt (drums), Hugh Hopper (bass), and Elton Dean (sax). The concert was billed as Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth, and Soft Machine friends. This release comes in a jewel case with a four page booklet with notes by Daevid Allen. Bottom line: if you're new to the Gong/Daevid Allen universe I suggest you start with the actual albums (Flying teapot/Radio Gnome trilogy, Camembert Electrique, and especially (to put this release in perspective) Magic Brother. As stated, this one is for the hardcore fans. As a Gong fan, I'm glad this was released. A worthy purchase indeed."
