Area - Live 2012 : 2 x CD box with poster
33-UPA CD 003
For me, Area were one of the very greatest of the 70s Italian progressive rock bands, and also one of the least typical, which is probably why I like them the best and many folks don't (insert wry smile here!)! This features the three surviving members (Patrizio Fariselli (who wrote all their tunes) on piano and synths, Paolo Tofani on guitar, live electronics, etc. and Ares Tavolazzi (bass and double bass), along with drummer Walter Paoli. The 1st disc is old favorites and the 2nd is new songs. This won't make you forget Are(a)zione, but it's nice to hear them and these renditions are pretty different from the originals (and mostly instrumental as well; who could possibly replace Demetrio??).
"Area have been one of the most reknowned bands of the 70s in Italy, giving a big contribution to the Italian progressive rock. They finally have returned to the music scene with the line-up: Patrizio Fariselli (piano and keyboards), Paolo Tofani (guitar, live electronics, vocals) and Ares Tavolazzi (double bass and electric bass). The group, fresh from the success of the Reunion Tour 2011/2012, now releases a new album. It is a double CD, titled area live 2012. The project will contain records of the last concerts as well as the recording of new songs. In addition to the new songs, do not miss the great classics as “Luglio Agosto Settembre (Nero)”, “La Mela di Odessa”, “Arbeit Macht Frei” and especially “Cometa Rossa” that in this album you can appreciate in a new light , thanks to the voice of Maria Pia De Vito, that is able to deal with the important legacy of the unforgettable singer Demetrio Stratos, who died in 1979. On the record also stands out the presence of drummer Walter Paoli, known for having already played with names of excellence as Stefano Bollani, Stefano Di Battista, Paolo Fresu and many more."
