Arguelles, Julian - Ground Rush

SKU Clean Feed CF 191
Julian Argüelles, tenor saxophone / Michael Formanek, double bass / Tom Rainey, drums.

"Since the years he played with the big band Loose Tubes, side by side with the likes of Django Bates, Iain Ballamy, Steve Berry, and Ashley Slater, the most attentive music lovers noticed that the British Julian Argüelles was becoming one of the most original saxophone voices in contemporary jazz. Outside Europe, and strangely enough, Argüelles still doesnt' have today the wide recognition he deserves, but the "big names" are always requesting his contributions for their projects or enthusiastically agreeing to be part of his bands, from Chris McGregor to Carla Bley, and including such different musicians like Dave Holland and Hermeto Pascoal, John Abercrombie and Jim Black, Kenny Wheeler, Dave Liebman and Tim Berne. "Ground Rush" is Argüelles second album released by a Portuguese label, after his solo CD "Inner Voices" (TOAP), and also the second of his trio with Michael Formanek and Tom Rainey, brilliantly succeeding to "Partita". He couldn't have more adequate partners: Formanek is also one of the most singular double bassists around and there's no-one like Rainey playing the drums. But be aware: if these are very personal players, together they have a strong group feel, always acting cooperatively. If you liked this trio's first effort, you'll be astonished with "Ground Rush"."
