“Martin Barre has produced his own solo albums away from his work in Jethro Tull, but AWAY WITH WORDS is by far his finest offering to date. A deft combination of classic Tull tunes (rearranged) and his own compositions, the music is a guitar-lover's extravaganza, plus mandolin, bouzouki, flute and other instruments played by Martin and a few guests.
Martin's choice of material from the great Tull folk-rock albums "Songs from the Wood," "Heavy Horses" and "Stormwatch" is terrific, and he even works in a lush arrangement of "Hymn 43" from "Aqualung."
The arrangements are orchestral in scope, with dazzling playing throughout. It's mostly acoustic, classically tinged folk, with ample touches of Martin's classic electric guitar sound (nice harmonies, naturally) tastefully included.”
