JSP Records are the best label overall I've encountered who work in the field of releasing CDs of old jazz and blues recordings. JSP's releases typically undergo extensive (and very expensive) careful and tasteful manual cleanup, and they have become rightly renowned for the highest possible sound quality considering the source material. These releases all come packaged in full jewel cases (no little paper sleeves here) and have full personnel and reasonable liner notes. Highly recommended.

Was there ever a more swingin' band than Basie's late 30s/early 40s group? If so, I haven't heard it! This has ALL of the the best material from this monster period in the band's existence.

"This killer box set covers most of Basie's best in studio work from 1936 to 1945 when he had the best band around, bar none. We are talking about some of the very best jazz musicians of all time: Lester Young, Herschel Evans, Buck Clayton, Don Byas, Sweets Edison and the monster rhythm section of Freddy Green, Walter Page and Jo Jones. Of course the Count himself was no slouch on the piano and add the vocals of Jimmy Rushing and Helen Humes and you've got 4 discs of music you can listen to over and over again without it ever growing stale. There is simply not a less than very good song in the lot. JSP once again does a fine remastering job."-J Grant
