Second album from this unique German trio (well, not a trio any more - read on) who combine certain aspects of progressive/postrock bands like Tortoise, Jaga Jazzist with the rhythmic aspects of Nik Bartsch's Ronin, a Steve Reich/Philip Glass/Michael Nyman maximum minimalist sweep and 'die mensch machine' esthetic of Kraftwerk. Lots and lots of polyrhythms here, baby, both electronic and non-electronic varities and lots of piano and keyboards. If you dig around on YouTube, you'll see lots of clips of them and you can see what they do. Released on a very hip German electronic/techno/dance label, it's nice to see something that's so very rhythmic, so very 'electronic dance music' still be this weirdo at the same time! For this one, they've expanded it into a 10 piece band, with violin, cello, trombone, tuba, harp, marimba, percussion, moog, piano, drums, etc. If you like the referenced bands/ensembles and you don't mind shaking your booty, you'll dig this muchly. Conditionally highly recommended.

Average Rating
Caveat: if you have their first album, "You Make Me Real", you have 4 of the 8 tracks (editor's note: NOT tracks - you have different versions of 4 of the 8 *compositions*) on this new disc. That said, the fully orchestrated versions are very interesting in themselves and well worth hearing;just don't expect an album of completely new songs.
