Rain Dances, the band's fifth, is my personal favorite Camel album. The band lost their bassist after Moonmadness, and needing a bassist and wanting a change of direction, they settled on the amazingly talented bassist/singer/writer Richard Sinclair, fresh from his stint with Hatfield and the North (and Caravan before that). Richard's work adds a nice, jazzy/fusion/Canterbury dimension to their sound, which is furthered by the addition of ex-King Crimson saxist Mel Collins, who also performs strongly. A classic progressive release from a bit late in the day - 1977 - which makes it that much more impressive! [Deram]
