Coleman, Ornette - Live Manchester Free Trade Hall 1966 : 2 x CDs

SKU 05-HH 3098CD
I love Ornette and own a ton of Ornette, but his trio with David Izenzon and Charles Moffett is one of my very favorite of his bands. They emerged in 1962, made a live album for ESP, disappeared for 2 years while Ornette tried to get bookings that represented monetarily what he felt his music was worth (good luck with that, OC!), and then had their biggest spate of activity in 1965 & 1966, with European tours and with a few live recordings coming out on Freedom and Blue Note.
I knew that a recording of this show existed, but I had never actually seen it available or heard it before this! The sound is more than reasonably good for 52 year old recordings and this is THE stuff.
If you don't know this band, first buy both volumes of At The Golden Circle but if you do know them, then buy this!

"Ornette Coleman Trio, live at the Manchester Free Trade Hall on May 14th, 1966. Ornette Coleman formed a new trio with bassist David Izenzon and drummer Charles Moffett in October 1961. As the decade progressed, they expanded their musical palette to include trumpet and violin -- not instruments Coleman was experienced on -- and divided audiences and critics with their fiercely uncompromising music. Originally broadcast on FM radio during a short British tour, this remarkable set finds them on typically confrontational form."
