Cronshaw, Andrew - The Language Of Snakes CD (Mega Blowout Sale)

SKU 23-SPDCD 1050
This progressive, eclectic and sometimes electric folk / not folk album is tuneful and mighty enjoyable. Hard to categorize though, as it’s a very personal music.

“This is an intriguing album which might be loosely described as folk, given the traditional leanings of the track listing. However, it's the instrumentation, musicianship and overall mood of this fine collection which makes it a must buy for any serious collector. The first track, for example, played on a ba-wu accompanied sympathetically by double bass and cello, is as beautiful and haunting a piece as you'll find anywhere.
The unique sound of his electric zither is used to advantage on this eclectic selection of folk tunes drawn from many sources across Europe but he also plays another nine instruments on this.
The arrangements sensitively use the melodies as a jumping off point to use instruments from all over the world, along with more familiar ones, without losing the structure or becoming too self indulgent.
It is hard to classify - folk/world/fusion perhaps - and is probably not for lovers of strict tempo. But I thoroughly recommend it as an intriguing, enjoyable offering from the unique and mind-bogglingly talented Andrew Cronshaw.”
