Czar - Czar CD (expanded)

SKU 05-SUNBEAM5040
First-ever completely legit CD release of this early 1970 rarity. An incredibly obscure and rare early British symphonic/progressive album originally released on Fontana in 1970; I've only seen it on lp once, which is where I became aware of its existence (thank you Ken Golden). The goofy cover montage of a freaked out looking hippie guy morphing into a bear wearing the Imperial margarine crown (you think I am making this shit up?) will probably not prepare you for the extremely keyboard heavy album that very, very obviously that is taking many of its moves from In The Wake Of Poseidon and In The Court Of The Crimson King. Lots of mellotron (1st instrument listed on the cover), piano, organ, vocals, bass, guitars and drums.

"Originally released in 1970, Czar is firmly established as one of the most sought-after progressive rock albums ever released in the UK. An intense brew of Hammond organ, mellotron and scorching psychedelic guitar, it's certain to appeal to fans of King Crimson, Atomic Rooster, The Nice and Led Zeppelin. Presented here complete with eight bonus tracks and a full-color booklet (incorporating rare photographs and comprehensive sleevenotes in a 12 page booklet), this definitive reissue is a simply essential purchase for all lovers of heavy progressive psychedelia. "Fusing heavy prog with psychedelic overtones, this little-known release might easily have eclipsed the competition, had anyone actually known about it."-Q Magazine

"Essential for fans of keyboard-dominated progressive rock."-The Tapestry Of Delights
