D.F.A. - 4th

SKU MOONJUNE021
After releasing 2 very good studio albums and a live album, the Italian progressive group D.F.A. seemed to dissapear for a number of years. Luckily, in the last few years, they hooked up recently with Leonardo Pavkovic and MoonJune, which seems to have completely revitalized the group. First off came the repackaging of their 2 studio albums and now, finally, here is their fourth album. Using a standard keyboards, guitar, bass and drums line-up, the groups sound has drifted more and more towards a direction that I'm really fond of: the Canterbury sound! While they are in no way just copying the sounds of National Health and especially Hatfield and the North, I must say that there were small passages where it really did sound like The Yes No Interlude and other wonderous bits of Hatfield! There's other fine influences as well, such as the instrumental parts of Deus ex Machina and Accordo dei Contrari. The songs range from mid-length to two pieces well over 15' long. Almost completely instrumental, on the last track they do a folk piece from Sardinia, which incudes a vocal trio, which is a really great way to end a fine album. This is a record sure to please a huge range of fans of progressive rock and jazz-rock, including me. Believe me, you want this. Highly recommended.

Wonderful. At times you really think you are listening to the Hatfields or National Health. This is equally good as those groups, both in terms of composition and playing. But at other times the sound is here very unique, and still great.
