Dean, Elton - Sea Of Infinity (Mega Blowout Sale)
"This is the 50th release on the Hux label, but it's our first brand new album (as opposed to a reissue or an unearthed archive recording). Sea Of Infinity was recorded last year and confirms that Dean's playing is as sublime as ever. Elton Dean began his professional career with Long John Baldry's Bluesology in 1967. He left that band and helped to form the Keith Tippett sextet. Between 1969-1972, Elton formed part of the now legendary Soft Machine line-up (Wyatt, Hopper, Ratledge, Dean). Tracks 1 & 4 feature the Elton Dean Quartet, with Mark Hewins (guitar), Marcio Mattos (double bass) and Tony Bianco (drums). Track 2 is just Elton & Mark, displaying a fluidity that comes with 25 years of playing together. Elton & Mark are joined on track 3 by the American poet, Sibyl Madrigal."-press release.
"Sea of Infinity' features three 20 plus minute tracks and is perhaps the best free/fusion outing I've heard in a long while. There is an obvious simpatico between the sax and electric guitar, ever swirling and sailing together, weaving their spirits righteously The acoustic bass and drums also consistently spin intensely together, buzzing and burning, pushing Elton and Mark higher and higher into the heavens and beyond. Mark Hewins processes his guitar on occasion and does a fine job of adding some spooky spice at just the right moments, but still knows when to wail with Elton. Not for the timid, although the sax & guitar duo track is nicely laid back and magically eerie."-Downtown Music Gallery
