One of the great deals we currently have! This is a great, fun, retro-styled album; one of the best of its kind. Highly recommended.
This is a new UK band who are inspired by the heady expermentation going on in rock music in the very late 60s into the very early 70s. The sound here fits pretty strongly into what we now call the 'UK proto-progressive sound' of bands released on Vertigo or Deram. The recorded sound is very analog and very much in keeping with that spirit too. Think Soft Machine in 1969, T2, Bachdenkel, Spring and others. And think quality - this is really surprisingly great if you dig the period vibe. To give you an idea, look at what instruments are used:
David Wileman: electric & acoustic guitars, percussion, synth, vocals
Nicholas Whittaker: alto saxophone, clarinet, flute, recorder, synth, percussion, vocals
Alex Crispin: electric & acoustic pianos, organ, lead vocals, synths, percussion
Daniel Pomlett: electric bass, electric & acoustic guitars, percussion, vocals
Nicholas Richards: electric & acoustic guitars, ebow, synths, percussion, vocals
Ross Hossack: synths, tapes, filters, percussion, vocals
Luke Foster: drums, synths, string arrangements, vocals
"Brighton-based seven-piece, Diagonal, dare to explore the cosmic terrain that most contemporary ‘Prog’ bands couldn't even dream, let alone dare. Drawing influence from the true origins of the late Sixties/early Seventies Jazz-Rock, Psych and Progressive underground, this astonishing debut album could have sat quite comfortably alongside similar artists from the RCA Neon, Nepentha, Deram and Vertigo-Swirl stables."
