Diagonal seemingly came out of nowhere with their splendid debut album which rightly gathered strong attention from progressive rock fans for their sound which brilliantly and strongly channeled the 'UK proto-progressive sound' of bands released on Vertigo or Deram circa 1971. Then, silence for several years. Now with some shifts in personnel, the group is back with a second effort and it's absolutely even better than that great first album. Nearly all instrumental (there are very good vocals on one track) In terms of how great this is, think early King Crimson (Poseidon or Lizard), early VDGG (H To HE or Pawn Hearts), T2, early Gentle Giant, etc, but without copying any of them! Great ensemble playing; no one in particular stands out, but the work on all the instruments used: saxes, guitars, keyboards, bass and drums is superior. I'm genuinely hugely impressed; this will undoubtably be one of the very top progressive rock releases of 2012. Hugely recommended!
