Garbarek, Jan - Afric Pepperbird

One of the most immediately identifiable voices on saxophone and one of the originators of the 'Nordic jazz' sound. This was his first album on ECM (it was recorded in September, 1970) and features and all-star early ECM 'Nordic jazz' band: Jan Garbarek-tenor and bass saxophones, clarinet, flutes, percussion, Terje Rypdal-guitar, bugle, Arild Andersen-bass, african thumb piano, xylophone, Jon Christensen-percussion. This is definitely an early ECM session; there's an exciting and hot agression here that is NOT 'the most beautiful sound next to silence' and can only be the work of young men with fires in their bellies and conquest on their minds!
