Garrick, Michael - Black Marigolds/The Heart Is A Lotus (remastered) 2 x CDs (Mega Blowout Sale)
It's just unbelievably wonderful to see all these unspeakably rare UK jazz titles sneaking out legitimately and remastered. Black Marigolds was recorded in 1966, very early for Argo by the pianist for the very well known (in the UK) Don Rendell/Ian Carr band and that band was still a going concern when he recorded this and it's an obvious infuence on the sound. And dig the players!: Joe Harriott-alto sax, Don Rendell-soprano and tenor sax, Tony Coe-clarinet, Ian Carr-trumpet, Dave Green-bass, Trevor Tomkins-drums and more. Heart Is A Lotus was recorded in January, 1970 for Argo. Musicians include: Art Themen-reeds, Jim Philip-reeds, Don Rendell-reeds, Ian Carr-trumpet, Dave Green-bass, Norma Winstone-vocals and Trevor Tomkins-drums. As time goes on, I begin to appreciate Norma's work more and more, and she's all over this.
