If you like Ethiopian pop music, Gigi, who is a fine vocalist (and also the wife of Bill Laswell) is one of the bigger names to emerge in the 00s from the scene.
This features modern production and dance grooves, married to the unusual scales and modes of Ethiopian music. Not all of this is totally killer for my tastes, but the stuff that is, really is, and it's great to hear the contributions of some great, adventurous musicians mixed into the grooves.
