As Peter mentions in his notes, his fourth solo album from 1974 was the first that he recorded while no longer really under the 'shadow' of VDGG. It's also definitely his most 'out' work; one side is fairly typical of his early period solo material, featuring a weird avant/progressive esthetic grafted onto singer songwriter form. This album has a few interesting and really uneasy uses of sound and noise amongst the songs, and, of course, David Jackson and Guy Evans back him up superbly. And there's some fine songs here: "Again", "The Comet, The Course, The Tail". Then, on what used to be side two, there is a hugely weird and long musique concrete/sound piece, which is definitely...different. I once was told that Hammill wrote and performed this album after his brother died of cancer and it sure *sounded* like it could be true. That turned out to not be the case, but what Peter talks about in his liner notes is that it was written after his brother was knocked off his bike and was in a coma. Did his brother survive? Peter doesn't say. Includes 3 great tracks from a John Peel session as well as Peter's recollections. A brave effort from a brave artist.
