Hammill's 6th album and I believe the first one released after the final dissolution of Van der Graaf. It is the closest thing to a 'concept' album I can think of by Peter, charting the decline and final dissolution (of course it is a sad story! it's a Peter Hammill album!) of a love affair. When I was becoming a Hammill fanatic, this one was impossible to find; the only place it was in print (this is lp days, of course) was Israel, and with a lot of difficulty, I did finally procure myself a copy! Not his absolute best, but pretty good overall and some of it is great. And, of course, if you are in the middle of a dissolving love affair, it may ring quite true. 2 John Peel show versions of songs from the album and an alternate take of another are the bonus tracks and there's some good, insightful notes from Peter.
