Harris, Don "Sugar Cane" - Sugar Cane's Got the Blues (24 bit remastered/mini-lp sleeve)
SKU
21-CON3CD
Old folks like me will remember this electric blues/rock/psychedelic album in the lp bins. Recorded live at the Berlin Jazz Festival in November, 1971, at the same festival where the Brotherhood of Breath were playing the performance that became "Eclipse at Dawn"! Sugar Cane was a blues/r'n'b violinist all the way back into the 1950s, when he had a duo called Don and Dewey; Frank Zappa loved Don and Dewey and made Sugar Cane known to rock and progressive fans when he would feature him as a guest violin player on some of is records (he appears fairly prominently on Hot Rats and Burnt Weeny Sandwhich, and has just one feature - but a brilliant one - on Weasels Ripped My Flesh).
This has an all-star lineup of: Robert Wyatt (drums), Volker Kriegel (guitar), Neville Whitehead (electric bass), Wolfgang Dauner (keyboards), with Terje Rypdal on guitar on one of the four very long tracks, subbing for Kriegel.
