Hasselbring, Curtis - The New Mellow Edwards

About a year and a half ago, John Hollenbeck (Claudia Quintet) sent me a copy of a recording that he had made with a band he had recently joined. The band was called The New Mellow Edwards, and it was led by trombonist Curtis Hasselbring along with Chris Speed-clarinet & tenor sax, Trevor Dunn-double bass and John on drums. I really liked its quirky blend of new jazz combined with rock riffing, but unfortunately I am not able to release every great thing that I hear. This isn't the recording that John let me hear, but it's every bit as good (better, actually) and they are still a great band and I dig this muchly. If this sounds appealing to you, you will undoubtably dig it too! Recommended!
