Herd Of Instinct - Drone Priest

SKU FR 007
This is the fourth album by this excellent, instrumental US band, out of Texas. Their sound and approach always had some touches of Djam Karet to them, and now that Gayle Ellett is aboard the band as a full member, Djam Karet is a very comparable band sound, although Herd are definitely not just doing the DK thing!
I saw them at ProgDay several years ago and they were excellent and soundchecked by performing "Devotion" by John McLaughlin, which earned them extra brownie points from me! This one includes keyboardist Adam Holzman, of Miles Davis AND Steven Wilson fame!

Mark Cook - Warr guitar, fretless bass, fretless and fretted guitars, keyboards, samples, and drums
Gayle Ellett - mellotron, moog, Hammond organ, and guitar
Bill Bachman - drums
Bob Fisher - flute and sax
Adam Holzman - Moog, piano, mellotron and Rhodes
Marco Machera - bass
Mike McGary - Rhodes, synth, and vibes
Rick Read - Chapman Stick
Ross Young – cymbals

"For over a decade, Herd of Instinct—that Little Ole Obscure Prog Band from Texas—has quietly created a body of work that reflects the wild diversity that is Prog Rock. Their newly released fourth album, Drone Priest, on Djam Karet’s Firepool Records, takes the listener on a journey exploring mood, texture, and experimental song structures. The most dynamic and varied album the band has produced to-date, Drone Priest seamlessly layers elements of prog, post rock, ambient drones, jazz, and complex percussion, while showcasing the Warr guitar and analog synths to create a unique blend of genres."
