"Handmade is the 1st CD by Frank Herzberg, a German bassist who has lived in Brazil for almost 2 decades. His trio is completed by Zé Eduardo Nazário, one of the most active drummers in Brazil (Hermeto Pascoal, Egberto Gismonti, Grupo Um, Pau Brazil, John McLaughlin, Joe Zawinul) and pianist Alexandre Zamith, who plays acoustic and Fender Rhodes. Herzberg is an astonishing bass player both pizziacato and arco. The music is a modern jazz with Brazilian elements and the combination of acoustic bass, sometimes played with a bow, drums and Fender Rhodes produces something unpaired. Besides Herzberg´s compositions, there are contributions by Nazário and Zamith. Nazário´s track, A Xepa, was composed during his time with Hermeto Pascoal, in the early 70´s, and was never recorded until now. This CD has been nominated for best jazz record of 2011 by many Brazilian magazines and sites."
