Hillage, Steve - Fish Rising (remastered / expanded)

SKU 15-Caroline 73415
Gong's guitar-star recorded this very fine, Gong-influenced album in 1975. It features an all-star cast: Dave Stewart-organ, piano, Mike Howlett-bass, Pierre Moerlin-drums, Tim Blake-synths, Didier Malherbe-saxes & flute, Miquette Giraudy-voice and Lindsay Cooper-bassoon.

For me, this is Steve's strongest solo album and is a must have for Gong and Khan fans, as the sound is somewhere between the two and having what is basically Gong with Dave Stewart contributing strongly on piano and organ only makes this a double must-have.

Newly remastered and including (finally) the great track Pentagrammaspin from the V Virgin sampler and another bonus as well. Highly recommended!

Steve Hillage is one of the all time most under recognized rock guitarists. Steve's work with Khan, Gong, and as a solo artist is some of the most exciting guitar playing you'll ever here. This is his first solo album, recorded while he was still a member of Gong. It consists of five pieces, including three extended suites of epic proportions: Solar Musick Suite, Salmon Song and Aftaglid. The music is a mix of guitar heroics, intricate compositions, and some of the most "relentless upbeat" lyrics (as one critic once put it) you'll ever hear. It's worth noting that when The Steve Hillage Band performed at the 2006 Gong Family Unconvention in Amsterdam, the three above named pieces all figured in his set list. If you like Gong, some of the other Canterbury bands, or just really killer guitar work, this is the place to go!
