Finally after a 5 year wait, this great, Norwegian 9 piece ensemble return. If their two amazing albums The Stix and A Livingroom Hush showed us that you could mix the adventurous mingling and mixing of jazz and rock like Soft Machine did 40 years ago with the tools and sounds of now: computers and electronica and beats, their last one What We Must showed them pointing in a new direction which was interesting but the album was not ultimately as good as what came before. Now they have moved further with that sound and delivered perhaps their best album yet. The extended instrumentation is still there but it's used more ornamentally as embellishment and there are heavy influences from post-rock groups, especially from Tortoise, as well as some parts heavily influenced from Steve Reich and Phillip Glass. Entrancing from the first listen, it's also a grower and a stunner! This will defintely end up being one of my top 10 for the year and probably in the top 5. Highly personally recommended.
