Kayo Dot - Gamma Knife/Grey Dream 180 gram, red with black swirl vinyl lp (due to size and weight, this price for the USA only. Outside of the USA, the price will be adjusted as needed)
"Kayo Dot is an American experimental music group formed in 2003 by Toby Driver after the disband of maudlin of the Well. They released their debut album Choirs of the Eye on John Zorn's Tzadik Records label that year. Since then, Kayo Dot's music has undergone several identity shifts, largely influenced by the band's constantly-changing lineup and instrumentation. One predominant element of Driver's compositional voice which remains consistent throughout all of Kayo Dot's output, however, is the band's use of abstract timing and performance cues.
On this recording, the band consists of:
Toby Driver - bass guitar, guitar, vocals, keys; Terran Olson - alto sax; Daniel Means - alto sax; Keith Abrams (Time of Orchids) – drums; Mia Matsumiya – violin; Tim Byrnes - mellotron, bells.
Gamma Knife sees Kayo Dot return to the metal oriented music of their first two releases (2003’s Choirs of the Eye and 2006’s Dowsing Anemone with Copper Tongue). Frontman Toby Driver stated in a recent interview w/ Sound Colour Vibration: “Gamma Knife is my exploration of a Black Metal sound”."
"Throughout Gamma Knife, Kayo Dot creates an atmosphere that is cloistering in a landscape that is seemingly infinite"-The Silent Balet
"There is also a tremendous sense of achievement in the music, a sort of intense yearning for the stage perpetuated by the resonance of the live band bouncing off the walls."-Lurkers Path
"As always, it cautions to expect the unexpected with Kayo Dot."-Alarm Press
