We've carried this bad boy ever since it was released - first as an EP and lp on vinyl and then as this collection of both together - and rightly so, because it's one of the great albums of weirdo rock. We hadn't sold one for a long time, but ReR's recent collection of some of Maksymenko's work has spurred folks to check this out - and this is a much better place to start than the ReR album, so we are glad to have this back again! Simply one of the most over-the-top & deranged bands ever, Kraldjursanstalten's (The Reptile Asylum) two releases (an album & an EP) are reissued & make an appearance together & complete on CD. Led by amazing drummer/singer Michael Maksymenko, & joined by the equally amazing identical twins Stefan & Thomas Agaton on guitar & bass respectively, their music was fast & reminiscent of a punkier Magic Band. Highly recommended.
"Heavily influenced by the convoluted blues of prime-era Beefheart Magic Band, these guys played a fairly unbelievable variation on the style -- intense, full throttle guitar/bass/drum interplay with absolutely crazed Swedish vocals on top. Beefheart fanatics use to fall face flat when hearing this stuff back when it came out, and I'm sure there's a whole slew of newcomers ready for the same gust of Nordic madness. Maksymenko went on to work with Henry Kaiser in the later 80s, forming the band Crazy Backwards Alphabet (along with Magic Band drummer Drumbo French). These recordings have been legitimately "weird" -- every single day, for 25 years now!"
