Magical Power Mako - Hapmoniym 1972-1975 : 5 x CD box set

SKU 05-Bamboo Box 001
"The epitome of a cult artist (and a favorite of Julian Cope), the enigmatic Magical Power Mako (aka Makoto Kurita) has been sporadically releasing albums in his native Japan since 1974. This lavish numbered, limited edition 5CD set collects jams taped by him between 1972 and 1975, and comes complete with a full 12-page booklet. Encompassing psychedelic folk, Krautrock, electronica and fuzz guitar, the music's effect is frequently astounding, and absolutely essential for all fans of Japrock."

"Hard-grooving episodes alternate with meditative drones, bongo freak-outs, Greek and Japanese folk tunes, a slide whistle solo, electronic music that sounds inspired by Arne Nordheim, delirious fuzz guitar, and an unexpected medieval-sounding song. Hapmoniym (whose title, when written in uppercase letters, spells out the word Harmonium in Greek characters) is a monument to creativity, self-indulgence, and the occasional necessity of self-indulgence to foster superhuman creativity."-All Music Guide

Great value on this set! Yes,five discs of Magical Power Mako's "fan-club" tapes from when he was a Japanese superstar of weird music. There are so many sides to this set,and loads of great moments to be found here. But be aware that not all of this is of top audio quality(although none of it really sucks ,sound-wise...). No it's a bit like listening to cassettes of out-takes ,....and really that's exactly what these were. Flashes from the archives of a Japanese mad musical experimenter! Also the earlier "Mom 'n' Dad records" version of these had an appreciation from Eye (of the Boredoms) ,just so you know that it was a big influence on all the "right" heads way back on it's original issue! Now when can we expect a reissue of volumes #6 through #10? Especially since #6 has a complete concert featuring Keiji Haino. This set has some moments with Haino too.....but to hear that whole concert,whew-that would be something. Next, please!?!?
