Until they eventually reappeared in the 1990s, this was the last Magma album. Originally released in 1985 or so, I remember seeing it when it first came out and thinking, "there's something wrong here." Maybe it was the illustration of the hands holding what is either grains of wheat (staff of life, y'know) or the biggest buds of pot ever seen by mankind. Maybe it was the song titles, all in English, including "Call from the Dark (ooh ooh baby)". But somehow, deep in my stomache, I knew this wasn't going to be Kohntarkhosz and it isn't. It is actually Christian turning towards the output of Offering, the band that occupied him for the next decade or so. Anyway, it's now here for completists.

I had always avoided this album, due to reviews like this. However, I finally did hear it, and am quite disappointed I did not this sooner. Eliphas Levi is absolutely beautiful, and I also thought Otis was good. Those two songs comprise 40% of the music on this cd, so I cannot agree with those that say this is completely dreadful.
