Sabu Martinez was a quite famous Latin percussionist from the USA who moved to Sweden for the last period of his life, which is why he has a record released on Mellotronen. At its best, this is hot fusion performed on keyboards, flute and sax, bass, drums and Sabu's percussion, which sounds like a cross between, Return to Forever jamming with Santana's rhythm section. Pretty great.

"The tapes of Burned Sugar (1973) were found accidentally in the archives of the Swedish National Radio.Never have jazz/fusion/funk being groovier than this. Musically Burned Sugar appeals to fans of funk, jazz, fusion, krautrock, extreme prog and filthy freak out bursting blasts from outer space. The CD includes bonustracks from a secret jam at the Polyvox studio 1974. Sabu Martinez was neither the first nor the last afro-cuban percussionist in the world, but surely a lot of people will agree on him being the best."
