The great 1st album by the Brotherhood has been newly reissued and remastered under original producer Joe Boyd's supervision. It features Chris McGregor, Dudu Pukwana, Mark Charig, Alan Skidmore, Louis Moholo, Mike Osborne, John Surman, Malcolm Griffiths, Nick Evans, Mogezi Feza, Harry Beckett, Ronnie Beer and Harry Miller! An utter Brit-jazz classic, & one that influenced many musicians & many albums of that scene. For me, this remains their very finest hour; Joe Boyd really understood how to capture their sound, and while free-blowers might prefer them wilder and woolier, this spotlights better than any other album the great songs and the great ensemble work. If you've been curious, this is the album to try and the songs and jazz forms combined with kwela rhythms are just wonderful here! This is the album. Highly recommended.
