Miller, Harry - Different Times, Different Places

SKU Ogun OGCD 041
Totally great selection in very, very good to excellent sound, of pieces by Harry and his great, under-recorded band Isipingo, including over 20' of very early recordings from June 4, 1973, with the unique line-up of Harry Miller-bass, Louis Moholo-Moholo-drums, Chris McGregor-piano, Mike Osborne-alto sax and Nick Evans-trombone (!) and then the complete performance from Chateauvillian Jazz Fest (nearly an hour) on July 7, 1976 and featuring Harry, Louis, Mike + Keith Tippett-piano, Mark Charig-trumpet and Malcolm Griffiths-trombone.

Out of the 7 pieces here, only 2 were known before this release!

I had long known Harry as a great bassist and an important part of the Brit-jazz scene, but until the last decade, I wasn't really aware of his importance and greatness as a bandleader in his own right. Believe me, he was one of the top greats. Highly recommended!
