Extreme budget-priced German issue of various Mingus stuff. You all know that I consider Charles one of the great composers of the 20th century. Disc 1 is the very rare material that only re-surfaced a few years ago, which is his very early 78 recordings from 1946-1949. I think it's great, but it is rather old sounding. Disc 2 is stuff from 1954. Disc 3 is the complete "Charles Mingues Present Charles Mingus", which is one of his 5 best-ever albums, and features the stripped down band of just Charles, Ted Curson, Eric Dolphy and Dannie Richmond and Disc 4 is the complete album "Mingus", another one of his greats, with two bonus tracks! If you want to have a good cheap intro to the great man, this is a good bet just for 2 of the discs.
