Mouzon, Alphonse - Mind Transplant

SKU 15-BLUE NOTE 8183652
I hadn't heard this heavy, slightly funky fusion album in about 20 years, so it was good to revisit and, and to discover how good it is - well, except for the dopey vocal song. Featuring Alphonse (who made his name with Larry Coryell's 11th House and with Weather Report on their first album) on drums ARP 2600 and organ, and is joined by Tommy Bolin, Jay Graydon or Lee Ritenour on guitar, Jerry Peters on Fender Rhodes and Hammond B-3, and Henry Davis on bass. Reminded me of hard-hitting fusion like Finch or Isotope, but with, as I said, a funkier bent. Similar in a lot of ways to Billy Cobham's legendary Spectrum album, including the work of Tommy Bolin, who fires off amazing solos on 3 of the tunes here.
