Nucleus / Ian Carr - Labyrinth / Roots 2 x CDs

SKU 28-BGO567.2
By the time of these two, the band's 5th and 6th albums, originally released in 1973 on Vertigo, the band had moved from their earlier collective roots to being Ian Carr's band. That's not a bad thing, as Ian was a good composer and trumpeter, as well as a bandleader. Labyinth was a large scale work featuring Carr & Kenny Wheeler-trumpets, Norma Winstone-vocals, Tony Coe-bass clarinet/clarinet, Brian Smith-saxes/flute, Dave MacRae and Gordon Beck-electric pianos, Roy Babbington-bass, Clive Thacker, Tony Levin and Trevor Tomkins-drums and percussion, and Paddy Kingsland-VCS3 synths. A fine big band jazz/rock work. Roots is for smaller ensemble and in addition to Carr, MacRae, Smith and Thacker features Jocelyn Pitchen-guitar, Roger Sutton-bass, Aureo de Souza-percussion and guest vocalist Joy Yates.
