Really nice boxed set of Tangerine Dream's second classic period,....In Search of Hades gathered the early Virgin classics where the band was based on improvisation with Peter Baumann,...this box covers the years when Baumann was out and a new man and new technology removed the need for pure improv and made a new "tuneful" era of TD! Could this be Tangerine Dream's true Progressive Rock period? Hearing this era separately from the rest makes me think it just might be! This is just as great as the last box set , and still has the "dark heart" of Tangerine Dream in place...yes, the tunes were sneaking their way into "the Dream", but the "unicorns and rainbows" (as my one friend called "that sound" ) were still a while away. The last classic albums from the 1980's are all here plus the whole concert that the album LOGOS was based on is here too, and it's much more strange that I'd have guessed from that album's material . As usual with TD a live album was mostly "live" just in name....so it's good to hear a real live document on it's own here! A few soundtracks are in evidence too...cuts from Risky Business are well known....but The Soldier and best of all The Keep make a showing for the first time also. The Keep material is the actual planned album that was cancelled way back when....so even if you have one of the bootleg CDs from recent times....this is much different. I've really noticed that once tangerine Dream left Virgin the true "slide" began to a lost "new Age" era.....so here are really the last vestiges of classic TD! Only a few recordings from the 1980's were of interest beyond this ...like PERGAMON (but I now know it was recorded in the era of this box set!),so the best stops here. A fine set...get it while it's hot!
