Third Ear Band - The Magus

The TEB were a late 60s/mid 70s quartet who were fixtures at ALL the festivals & who used hand drums, oboe, violin/viola & cello to make a mostly improvised, dark, pagan & medieval-influenced, acoustic music. The only thing that comes close to their sound is some small bits of the early Univers Zero records. After their album "Music From MacBeth, the original band fell apart. The band then ended up with the following lineup: Geln Sweeney-hand drums/drums, Mike Marchart-guitars and vocals, Simon House-VCS3 synth, violin, sitar, piano, Paul Minns-oboe, recorders and Ron Kort-percussion. They recorded The Magus, what they intended as their fourth album, but it was never released. Finally, 30+ years later, it can be heard, in good sound from the original tapes. There is a more song feel to this (Third Ear Band with vocals?!!) of course, and I would NOT recommend this as a starting point. But there's soem great primitive synth work mixed into the sound and it is obviously them most of the time. Includes photos and notes.
