Various Artists - Latin Jazz: Afro-Cuban Jazz Pioneers (special)

SKU 02-066 477 2
If you love/follow jazz of the 40s, you eventually end up here, if you didn't start here: with an appreciation and understanding of how the Hispanic (mostly Cuban, but others as well) residents of NYC mixed with the emerging boppers in the 40s and came up with Latin Jazz, a vibrant and exciting mixture that started in the 40s and peaked in the 50s for my tastes. This now out of print French import has over an hour of quality music, including some of the high-points of the genre at the time (Cubana Be / Cubana Bop - George Russell's 1st recorded composition, Machito, James Moody, Howard McGhee, Charlie Parker, Chano Pozo, etc) and is presented in a well-designed digipack with a booklet full of information about each track. Personally recommended for those looking to learn a little history and also get some wonderful, (& danceable) music!
