“A very curious proposition, gathering round 27 songs which served as inspiration for classic satirists the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band. In their earliest days, the band used to scavenge flea markets for rare '78s or simply the ones with the goofiest titles they could find.
Though only a few of these old novelty jazz songs were featured on The Bonzos' albums (I'm assuming they played some of the others live), this entire set should appeal to fans who get a kick out of their covers of "By A Waterfall", "Button Up Your Overcoat" and "Jollity Farm".
Listening to this compilation, it's apparent that The Bonzos made quite a few changes when adapting some of them (the original "Mickey's Son & Daughter" is even more of a musical cartoon and "Hunting Tigers" has a fairly different tempo/arrangement).
Some of these songs are so great, I really wish The Bonzos would have recorded and released studio versions- this is especially true of "All By Yourself In The Moonlight" and "Little Sir Echo" (though there's a rough version of the latter on the "Anthropology" rarities comp). Fun for Bonzos fans of all ages.”-rym
