Various Artists - Still Stompin' At The Savoy (Mega Blowout Sale)

SKU 23-Gist 003
A great collection of rockin', rompin' music from 1944-1953, a decade that saw the seeds of R'n'B and rock 'n' roll planted. Personally recommended; this is a great party album.

"Subtitled "Screamin' R & B Saxmen, Broadway Be Bop, Uptown Doo Wop, Big City Blues Belters, Sepia Sinatras and Sophisticated Ladies, almost everything you need to know about the scope of this enjoyable collection is contained within the title. The collection was originally issued as a cassette by the NME, and is sometimes credited as contributing to the renewed interest in jazz as a form of dance music. Titles that are well known to bebop scholars (mainly those drawn from Bird's Savoy years) rub shoulders with novelty pieces which, it must be remembered, were just as representative of the sounds of that era. The Johnny Otis Orchestra, Charlie Parker, Stan Getz, Joe Turner, Clarence 'Gatemouth' Brown, Slim Gaillard, Art Pepper, Babs Gonzalez, Helen Humes."
