Partigiani is the new music project by Zuf De Zur, a band from Gorizia, Italy, that has been involved for the last few years in the research and new interpretation of the cultural heritage of their border land. The band tries to blend and express the richness of sound and language that belongs to a land that is continuously changing, a crossroad of peoples and cultures: Zuf means mix in Friulano, while Zur means party in Slovenian. It is a mix of music, languages and sounds, to overcome prejudices and any form of narrow-mindedness. Partigiani! is a collection of testimonies at the limit between poetry and music, vivid and precious memories for these frontier land where culture has always meant striving for an intelligent and passionate openness, with no regard for borders of national, linguistic, cultural, or social origin. The songs are in Friulan, Slovenian, Istrian, Yiddish, and Italian. The testimonies bring back important facts of the Liberation fight, that have been neglected by the official historiography (in Gorizia, from 13 to 16 September 1943, just five days after 8 September, the Liberation army fought the first partisan battle on Italian territory). The goal of this music project is to rediscover the authentic spirit of Resistance. It is a journey of social justice that, starting from the memories of those who fought the Liberation war as partisans or who anyway chose to resist, proposes a message that is first and foremost against oppression and for human rights.
