A number of years ago, I saw this band play at ProgDay, and they were a hard-rocking band with modern prog-rock touches (ala Porcupine Tree) who really won me over with their performance.

This is their first new studio album in a number...

New lineup and new, fourth album from this perennial, nearly all- instrumental favorite from Italy.

"Released by Bam Balam Records, a french label from Bordeaux, Cometary Orbital Drive is nothing but a long suite based on a six-notes sequence. Behind the out-dated cover, you will find a booklet which explains that the riff has some magical power...

“Prog Band from Italy, Acqua Fragile, fifty years after the first album by the same name in 1973, comes out with a brand new work, an album with totally original songs, entitled: “MOVING FRAGMENTS”. Confirming the salient characteristics of A F style - vocal harmonies, odd tempo signatures, romanticism, aggression, theatricality and research - some new features and significant developments embellish this new album. The three original members of the band Piero Canavera/drums, percussion and vocals, Franz...

Agora were a somewhat obscure Italian progressive fusion outfit that somehow managed to squeak out two good albums on the Atlantic label in the mid 1970s.
Both albums were excellent quality, Italian jazz rock ala Perigeo, Il Baricentro, Weather Report, etc.
Now, after 40 years, original 70s members Ovidio Urbani (sax), Renato Gasparini (guitars) & Lucio Cesari (bass) are joined by new members Masimo Manzi (drums), Gabriele Possenti (acoustic guitar) and Gianni Pieri (cello) along with special...

“It's been 17 years since AINUR decided to turn Tolkien's masterpiece "The Silmarillion" into music. Each member of the band was immersed in their own compositional emphasis, inspired by Tolkien mythology. As if hypnotized, they began to compose profusely all the themes of the main characters, and began to imagine the colossal concept they have been working on so far. The eagerly awaited new album "War of The Jewels" is released by Rockshots Records, and sees the band embark on an interesting evolution...

Disconnected is the fourth release by this Norwegian band, who have gained a lot of fans for their modern channeling of Pink Floyd and their 'feel'.

In reading background about them, everything I read made it sound like that's all they do, and I definitely didn't hear it. Yes, there is a strong Floyd influence, circa the last great period of the band with Roger (Wish You Were Here & Animals), but there's also a lot of modern influences, such as Porcupine Tree/Steven Wilson, Radiohead, etc.

At its best, this actually really does sound like the great Archemedes Badkar actually BEING great. At its worst, it kinda sounds like the Dead.

“Archimedes Badkar was started by Per Tjernberg in 1972 and between 1975 and 1979 released four LPs. Recently, three of the original members plus four newcomers gathered in Silence's legendary studio in Koppom. There were two CDs and LPs, 102 minutes of music, mostly from lively first shots.
Badkar looked around the world early, absorbed music...

“How did I miss this? A new Asia Minor album? Finally, more "moon madness"! That's crazy! Asia Minor has long been shrouded in mystery to me. They released two excellent albums in 1979 and 1981 (including the great Between Flesh and Divine, in my opinion the best prog album of the 1980s, certainly holds its own with Moving Pictures and Misplaced...

“A founding member of SOFT MACHINE, Kevin embarked on a solo career in 1969, signing to EMI’s Harvest label and recording the album ‘JOY OF A TOY’ the same year. It is a mark of Kevin’s stature that his recordings during this period would feature contributions from notable musicians such as arranger and keyboard player DAVID BEDFORD, ROBERT WYATT, SYD BARRETT, MIKE OLDFIELD, LOL COXHILL, STEVE HILLAGE, ARCHIE LEGGET and more.
This 10” x 10” box set includes the albums:

"This classic album was first released in June 1983 by Charisma Records and four months prior to the release of the album "Genesis" and began life as a series of home demos and was completed at Genesis' The Farm studio.
"The Fugitive" featured contributions from Daryl Stuermer on guitars, Mo Foster on bass and drummers Steve Gadd, Tony Beard and Andy Duncan and for the first time Tony Banks sang lead vocals on all of the songs.
"The Fugitive" spawned the singles 'This is Love' and ...

Their fourth album from 1972 by this British group that came out of the English progressive movement of the 60's. Their music combines elements of The Moody Blues, to whom they are always compared, but also the more mellow parts of early King Crimson and Genesis. One of their greats from a great, under-heralded band.

“Released in November 1972, their fourth album was mainly recorded at Strawberry Studios in Stockport with the epic ‘Moonwater’ being recorded with a full orchestra at Abbey Road...

This is the first-ever vinyl reissue of the Finnish lp-only first release by this great rock/avant/fusion guitarist and his band Krakatau, which includes an entire second lp of previously unreleased and unheard material!
The record features a unique blend of heavy guitarwork combined with dual, wailing Coleman and Ayler-influenced saxes and a rhythm section of bass/electric bass and two drummers. The music is quite original, but has..

The EBB were one of the very first bands signed to EMI's newly launched psychedelic/progressive Harvest imprint, along with Pink Floyd! Largely forgotten now, but popular in their day, they were always performing at festivals and gatherings and were renowned for their great live shows.
Their albums were great too, combining heavy blues rock ala Cream, Groundhogs, Taste, Skid Row with a generally more freaky and improvised/out/psych vibe. I hear elements of Captain Beefheart and Family/Roger Chapman...

Jack is best known for being the principle songwriter and bassist and voice behind Cream. He's got a wonderful voice and is a fine composer and he continued to make great work to his dying days.
This was the first release he had after Cream, and is a warm collection of songs with musicians like George Harrison, Dick Heckstall Smith, Art Themen, John Hiseman, John Marshall, Felix Pappalardi, Chris Spedding, Harry Beckett, Henry Lowther and others.

“‘Songs For A Tailor’ was Jack Bruce’s first.

“Live Frippertronics performances taken from recordings in New York City between July and August 1981
Mixed and Produced by David Singleton from audio restored by Alex R. Mundy
This is the Frippertronics album that should have come out in 1982. The forty years that have passed have done nothing to diminish the power of the music.
The finest example of Frippertronics in performance”

After a year and a half writing and recording rock music, I needed to clear my head. I listened to and made music where things generally happen gradually rather than suddenly. I would set up patches on a Monomachine or Analog Four and listen to them, hearing one sound morph into others, making changes to a patch only after having listened for quite a while, gradually adding elements, and finally manipulating the sounds on the fly. All tracks were recorded live to CD burner, with no overdubs, and...

“The ultimate presentation of Fruupp in a bespoke boxed edition containing DVD, a live CD, book, six postcards, badge, & poster.
With a title that betrays exactly what resides in the box it refers to, this lavish presentation is the perfect tribute to, and celebration of, Northern Ireland's symphonic prog legends 'Fruupp' who split in 1976 without recording their projected fifth album 'Doctor Wilde's Twilight Adventure'.
Their reputation has grown in recent years via the discovery of a cassette...

Peter Farrelly : lead vocals, bass

Very, very last copies! Thou are warned!

This is a new, very limited (only 500 made) archival release of a non-professionally recorded concert from December 6, 1975. It’s was released by the band’s fanclub page and as good of a job as could be done with the recording was definitely done. One for fans, but a nice one for fans, especially with all these extras include

“De-formation: Piano Variations, a work for solo piano. Composed and performed by Galás in September 2019, the 21:19 minute piece is based on the expressionist poem Das Fieberspital (The Fever Hospital). Written by German poet Georg Heym in 1912, Das Fieberspital's depiction of warehoused patients of yellow fever presaged the treatment and hiding of infected and damaged soldiers later in WWI.
De-formation depicts a march and delivery of maimed and infected soldiers to hospitals and industrial...

Originally released privately in 1978 and long sought after by collectors, “III” is the one and only album by dual guitar-driven Dutch progressive rock quartet Het Pandorra Ensemble, on which they injected a touch of anarchy into their mix of improv and King Crimson influenced prog.
In 1973, the flower power era was long gone, progressive music had turned into bombastic symphonic rock, and even Pink Floyd had transmogrified into a middle-of-the-road band. In that year Gert-Jan Blom and Dolf...

"The eponymous, last album by the Genoese band, closes a short-lived but exciting artistic journey which leads some of the original New Trolls musicians, Nico Di Palo in particular, towards paths parallel to the ones of their previous group.
Born after the NT's split in 1973, Ibis released...

“The short but intense initial phase of Jumbo's career, characterized by the release of three albums in 1972/1973, revealed their distinctive approach to Italian progressive rock and rapid artistic growth. “Vietato Ai Minori Di 18 Anni?”, released in 1973, marks the pinnacle of this phase, showing the evolution of the band from a beginning linked to the English beat to a more mature and significant work for fans of Italian prog.
The album stands out for its exploration of controversial and taboo...

"For their third album, Finnish quartet K-X-P – whose Twitter biog describes them as Original-Electronic-Motorhead-Space-Trance-Spiritual-Rock-Meditation-FreeJazz-Godz (!) – have decided to capture the raw energy of their live performances in the studio.
That description is not serious, of course, but neither is it far wrong, because their music is surprisingly adaptable, despite it not having an obvious melodic interest from first listen. Rather, it taps into a primal place of rhythm and percussion...

"The mighty K-X-P return from a year long studio hiatus with a new EP entitled History of Techno , with the band paying homage to the origins of the monotonic umpa umpa , also known as techno music.
For these Finns techno is sacred music religious, ancient drumming that has been echoing since the beginning of time. Shamanistic band lead leader and singer Timo Kaukolampi explains 'Techno is music that has a special undercurrent, a meta level or lizard brain...

“Posthumous solo album from the multi-award winning singer, songwriter, producer and the voice of Big Big Train. At the time of David's death, the album was 95% complete and was finished by his friends.

"The second album from Mujician was recorded live earlier this year. In the interim, free jazz has developed a tradition and language which Poem About The Hero unashamedly refers to. It may not be that radical anymore, but Tippett's ensemble can still...

“Hypnotic, sensuous, dream-like, enveloping, funky, seductive, subtle, credible. The Australian trio of drummer Tony Buck, double bassist Lloyd Swanton and pianist Chris Abrahams have broken all the rules. They've transformed their (mostly) acoustic jazz piano trio into an outfit whose music sounds more like ambient electronic dance music, than any conventional notion of jazz. There are huge influences from R&B, Kraut Rock, The Doors, ethnic musics, Miles Davis and John Coltrane. With this persuasive...

The first release by this English group who spent their most popular and productive years in Germany, and are usually thought of as a German band. In 1971, the band landed a contract with German Bellaphon and recorded their first album, which was a spacey concept work. This is by far their most psychedelic album, with incrediblly trippy keyboards and guitar; while they don't sound 'like' 1969 era Pink Floyd, that's a pretty good comparison, and psych/prog and 1968-1971 era Floyd fans will eat this one up...

I'm hardly a cinephile, but I found Peter Greenaway's films unusual and unusually odd art films of the 80s and 90s to be really great and fascinating. And, of course, Michael Nyman's wonderfully insistent, personal take on minimalism fueled all of...

Excellent, contemporary Japanese art-punk sounds. It’s simultaneously kind of basic while being musically tricky and is a bit of a small classic of its kind, I think!

“Nijimusi is the 8th release from OOIOO. Led by YoshimiO, they're a band that has stayed relevant long past many of their contemporaries thru constant re-inventions & explorations. It's recorded with a more traditional rock set up of two guitars, bass & drums, but thanks to an improvisational recording process and technical prowess...

This prolific and excellent space-rock band present their latest and greatest, until they put out 3-4 more latest and greatest this year!
As always with OSC, this is a winner!

“Jeff Parker's Forfolks is a new album of solo guitar works. The album includes interpretations of Thelonious Monk's "Ugly Beauty" and the standard "My Ideal, " plus six original compositions including "Four Folks" (a tune first written by Parker and recorded in 1995) and "La Jetée" (a tune he recorded with Isotope 217 in 1997 and with Tortoise in 1998).
The four totally new original compositions are loop-driven, stratiform works that marry melodic improvisation with electronic textures. The album...

"Slight Freedom, Jeff Parker's first ever solo record, presents the first opportunity to hear the guitarist in fully self-revealed circumstances. Recorded in 2013 and 2014 in the Hollywood Hills as he relocated from Chicago to Los Angeles, Parker combines the dark tonal palette and percussive attack he's known for with real-time processing elements and field recordings, deftly crafting a unique world of solo guitar music - multi-lingual, mysterious, alive with extraordinary sonic events, with a sturdy...

“Though he invited in collaborators for this project, Parker is very much a solo artist on Suite for Max Brown. He constructs a digital bed of beats and samples; lays down tracks of his own on guitar, keyboards, bass, percussion, and occasionally voice; then invites musician friends to play and improvise over his melodies.
But unlike a traditional jazz session, Parker doesn’t assemble a full band in the studio for a day or two of live takes. His accompanists are often working alone with Parker...
